What a long weekend and I only went racing 2 nights and boy I am tired. Had to sleep all day Sunday.
Friday night we headed down to see some mini stock racing action for the first time in 2011. 12 minis were on hand with a few fwds mixed in. Young gun Austin Maynard just picked up a FWD and went racing. Was nice to see a new Maynard behind the wheel. Some big names in the mini ranks on hand and over all a good group of guys. The field was split into two heat races with Eric Frazier winning the first and Dale Oliver SR winning the second. The feature was all Darrin Harrell in the o1 machine toping the field. Was some great racing and was good to see Hellinga and Maynard run with the minis in a FWD. Also Tom Helinga picked up and extra $50 for being the highest finishing FWD and Eric Frazier and extra $50 for being the only mini stock to run on a radial tire instead of a Hossier Tire. The Late Models saw Adam Terry pick up the win for the first time after holding off Brian Ross. Pretty good clean racing as well. Sportsman LM saw Nick Presseler on top and in victory lane and street stocks put on a race of the year with the top 7 cars slicing and dicing for a win with Dave Long the winner. Over all great racing all night long and a good show.
Moving on to Saturday night over 110 cars at the New Paris Speedway and what a crowd of nearly 2000 fans. We finally got to see some heat race action and boy was that fun. Street stocks 44 strong yup 44 in one class . Only 2 non regulars whci is crazy. At NPS we have 14 late models 30 street stocks 4 pure stocks and 24 mini stocks with perfect attendance. Makes you wonder if the getting in free is working lol !!! Racing action saw my old man who has not had a great year find victory lane twice as he picked up the heat and the B main for street stocks. A full C main was also on hand with Randy Hoffman blows a motor on the last lap and gives the win to Eddie Hayes . What a good race as guys were fighting hard for the win. The A feature for the street stocks saw Rodney Spencer become the 4th different winner of the year.
When you hear race fans say the got to see an AMAZING late model race they mean it. Wait til this Sunday when you get to see it on TV. WOW 3 wide 3 times with out a hitch passing all over the place and good clean hard racing. Every car on the track with a new rub mark but no real wrecks. This was better than most Sizzlers I have seen. Eric Frazier funally got to make his debut in the #22 long night for him and Bobby Schisler as they ran double duty. Steve Stacy ended up the winner.
Mini stocks had a challenge as the Angola boys of Fuzzy, Justin Dubois, Ray Royal, Taylor Oberlin, and Nic Wimer all came to play for the extra $125 to win if they could beat an NPS guy. 4 of the 5 made the A main when the green flag flew. The orange truck driven by Fuzzy looked very good this week and until lap 10 I thought he may just win this thing. Caution came out and Jim Anglemeyer made his way to the lead. Good run by Grubb, Allen and Eric Frazier as well. Pure Stocks saw Eric Kiser win 4 in a row and I am thinking someone needs to stop this deal in a hurry. Eric is a good guy and good racer but we need a new winner.
The racing action was very hot and heavy and as we gear up for the $5000 to win Spring Sizzler for street stocks. I am really excited to see Andy Bozell drive a street stock. A lot of big names will be there this year and you will not want to miss this show. I am thinking we will have an A B and C feature this year as so many guys talking about this event. I can not wait !!!!
OK here I go again this week so sit back and hold on tight. Tracks are hurting and hurting bad. I mean 40 cars or less is killing us all. We look at tracks getting a 100 and we say why? Fridays are tough guys work late and money is tight but I will tell you Plymouth has been treating folks really well. They will wait for you get you some track time and help you out. I know in past M 40 has done the same thing. Just try and run a Friday when you can help out the tracks and bring a friend with you !!!! Sunday a few tracks ran and not good. I know after the long night from most local tracks Saturday folks needed a break . Guys and Gals short track racing needs us all. Trust me when I say I know gas prices and cost of living is killing us all. We just ALL have to go to tracks as often as we can and tell friends we had fun. I know I have seen a ton of remarks for bad calls ect but that one bad comment scares off even one race fan you are hurting your self and the track. I am guilty too as I disagree with rules changes in the middle of the year and bad calls but I have learned let it go and hope the track fixes the issue. We need to try to talk a lot more on the good things we see in racing and get more younger people into the sport like the old days. We can make it or break it and I dont know about you but I love some short track racing . Off the soap box I go just remember you never know who reads what you write or who is listening when you vent. What if its a guy looking to sponsor you or the track?? Just saying !
The month of June is very busy for me and mwracingnews.com as we will do at the track updates as often as we can.....
Thursday night we head down to Angola Motor Speedway for the Stan Perry Memorial. This race is crazy fun and has some awesome talent year in and year out. Mods and Minis will be on hand too. Minis from New Paris Will try to out do the Angola guys for $125 in bonus money so check out angolamotorspeedway.com for all the info
Friday back to Plymouth Speedway to see the HOSS Sprints . Should be a great show.
Saturday if the trend contiunes 100 cars will be on hand at New Paris as we have seen that car count all year so that will be exciting racing again.
Sunday might make the trip to Mottville again just depends on how I feel after the first 3 days.
Also Sunday at 5 pm SBT has Michiana Speed Zone so tune in to see all the fun racing action and behind the scenes action from the pits.
