Rhebergen, Prosser, and Bolyard repeat! Sergeff gets number four!

By Jay Pees

Conneaut, OH (July 10, 2015): Beautiful weather and a perfect track surface greeted race teams signing into the pit area for Raceway 7's tenth event of the season, a night of regular racing featuring all five regular divisions with kids under eighteen admitted free if in a scout or sports team uniform. At the end of the night Chad Weight had his sixth feature win of the season and Brent Rhebergen, Rick Prosser, and Ed Bolyard each had win number two while Bud Sergeff scored his fourth win of the season in a rough and tumble night capper. During the first heat for the Bonnell Collision Center E-Mods Dwayne Clay lowered the class track record to 18.549 on lap two.

Darrell Bossard and defending champion Kyle Zimmerman brought the Evergreen Lake Park Campground CARS Crate Late Models field to the green with Zimmerman taking the lead at the start and sixth starting Dennis Lunger coming to second by the end of lap one. Caution number one came in turn three on lap two when Bossard lost a wheel, spinning and then involving Wendall Pinckney and Joe Long.  Bossard and Pinckney (disqualified for exiting car) were unable to continue. William Pinckney lost power and came to a halt in turn one on lap three, again bringing caution. On this green five-time winner Chad Wright came to second and was alongside the leader on lap six on the back straight. Wright was leading at the completion of lap six. At halfway Wright led Zimmerman, Lunger, Dave Airgood, and Billy Henry. A lap later Henry exited to the pit. On lap fourteen Lunger used a 'slide job' to get by Zimmerman but Wright was gone, on to win number six and maintaining his points lead over the 2009 champion, Lunger. At the checkers it was Wright, Lunger, Zimmerman, Airgood, and Breyton Santee.

Twenty-one Bonnell Collision Center E-Mods started their feature with Jim Plance and Butch Southwell in row one. Six cars got together in turn three on lap one, slowing the race before the end of the lap. Southwell led from green with Brent Rhebergen gaining the lead before the end of one. Ken Zimmer, looking for win number three, was second by the end of three with Southwell back to third and Plance back to fourth. At five laps into the race Percy McDonald, the points leader, was fourth. At halfway the order was still Rhebergen, Zimmer, Southwell, McDonald, and Plance, with John Woodward challenging him for the spot. Yellow flew when Wayne Mohawk came to a halt on the racing surface. With eight laps left Rhebergen brought the field back to green with Percy McDonald now fourth and Plance fifth. On green Paul Phillips slammed the front straight wall, negating the start. On this start Troy Johnson, Troy Carr, and Paul Schreckengost tangled at green, all sliding into the infield. John Woodward came to fifth with four laps to go. At the checkers it was Rhebergen, Zimmer, Percy McDonald, Southwell, and Woodward. For Rhebergen it was win number two on the season for the third place runner in the points chase.

Ed Bolyard and Mark Frontera headed the field for the green flag in the Campbell's Mini-Storage Street Stock feature. Bolyard jumped into the lead from the start with Frontera right behind. John Bailey looped his mount on lap four, slowing the event for the first time. At green Withers, the two-time defending champion, was second, looking for his first win of the season. Bailey again spun in turn two, again bunching the field under caution. With five to go the order was Bolyard, Withers, Frontera, Jamie Duncan, and three-time feature winner Shaun Fawcett. With two laps left Duncan got by Frontera for third. The final order was Bolyard, Withers, Duncan, Frontera, and Fawcett.

Veteran Chuck Steinle Sr and Brian Foley brought the Bonnell Auto Sales Economods feature to Roger Osburn's green flag with Steinle taking the immediate lead. By the end of three laps Rick Prosser was second and leading a lap later, looking for win number two on the season. At halfway Prosser led Foley, who had got back by Steinle, with Derrick Dellinger fourth and Rusty Wheeler fifth. Dellinger slid into the turn two wall with eight complete. For the restart Prosser led Foley, Steinle, Wheeler, and defending champion Josh Ferry back to green. Ferry was up to third after one more lap. At the finish it was Prosser over Foley, Ferry, Wheeler, and Russ Kapalin, who got by Steinle at the final restart.

2012 champion Bud Sergeff was on the pole with Justin Boardman outside for the start of the Specialty Products Mini Stock feature with Sergeff immediately charging into the lead, looking for his fourth feature win of the season. Four cars piled up in turn one, negating the start. Involved were Casey Harmon, Kyle Adkins, Scott Gill, and Zoey Gill. Again Sergeff led at green with Jason Easler battling for the lead throughout the first lap. At five laps in Easler mounted a strong challenge but Sergeff came back, then defending champion Dale Fraschetti was second at halfway a lap later. Fraschetti took over at the front with three laps to go. Zoey Gill spun in turn four then Scott Gill spun, as the leaders came out of turn four, slowing the race again. Fraschetti grabbed the lead on the final lap but heading into turn three Sergeff and Fraschetti got together with Sergeff getting by for the win. Easler also got by for second with Fraschetti third. Jonny Boyd wound up fourth with Boardman fifth.
