Hottinger, Chilcote and Teeters Pick up First Wins at the Hill

July 12, 2015

All seven divisions were in action for the Fin Feather & Fur sponsored Veteran’s Appreciation Day, including the Holmes Tire late models with a $1,500 to win. Racing action was sure to excite as the Hill had its largest car count thus far this season with 125.

Starting the night’s events off was the Holmes Tire late models with a 20-car field. Setting the mark in qualifying was “The Flying Ace” Corey Conley with a 14.813. Heat race wins went to Rick Conley and Thomas Baker while Mike Lonas picked up the dash win placing him on the pole of the night’s feature event.

Bringing the field to the start of their 25 lap, $1,500 to win feature event was Lonas who would jump out to the early lead. In spite of that, challenging and making it a side-by-side battle for the lead was Corey Conley who would edge out Lonas to take over top spot. As the battle continued, Lonas would again take the lead over Conley as they drove through lap traffic. At the halfway mark, Vic Hottinger would make his move setting his sights on Conley and the second position. With a successful pass, it was Lonas out front and Hottinger sitting second when a caution would come out forcing the field to bunch back up. The green flew once again and Hottinger would challenge Lonas for the top spot, eventually taking the lead coming off of turn four. Thus, as the checkered come out it was “Vicious” Vic Hottinger picking up the $1,500 to win and his first feature win at Hilltop. Rounding out the top five was Mike Lonas, Corey Conley, Ty Myers and Rick Conley.

There were 14 youngsters ready to battle it out in the JPR Auto & Tire, Winning Edge and A&B Roofing and Construction mini wedges. Picking up heat races wins was Braxton Wilson and Karyssa Beagle, setting them on the front row of the feature. Out front early was Wilson. After multiple cautions, the green was back out and again it was Wilson out to the lead followed by Reece Bollinger who was working hard at taking the top spot. However, unable to do so, “The Dominator” Braxton Wilson would pick up yet another win this season. Top five went to Reece Bollinger, Donnie Danley, Brayden Renfrew and Carson Hubbard.

Next to roll onto the track was the Finish Line Auto Body modifieds with the “Toboso Bullet” Jimmy Smith setting fast time with a 16.047. Heat race winners were “Rockin” Robin Duston and Nathon Loney while Chris Basich picked up the dash win.

Pole setter, Chris Basich, brought the field to the green, jumping out early. With Basich out front, it was Jimmy Smith who would begin working his way into the top two around Scott Peltz and Bob Page. In addition, “Stormin” Norman Aronhalt would begin to make his move through the field working himself up to third from a tenth place starting position. Neverthless, after leading every lap, it was Chris Basich who would pick up the win followed by Jimmy Smith, Norman Aronhalt, Robin Duston and Scott Peltz.

The Holmes Pest Control street stocks had a field of 16 with Mike Lonas fast qualifier with a 16.827. The only heat race win went to Kevin Potts with “Chilly” Bob Chilcote picking up the dash win.

Setting the pace to the green was Chilcote with Dave Potts sitting outside. As the green dropped, Chilcote jumped out front as the battle for positions would ensue behind between Daugherty, Shroyer and Potts. Meanwhile, Lonas would begin working on Chilcote for the top spot. Lap after lap, Lonas would charge “Chilly” yet unable to capitalize. Able to hold his position, even after breaking the left front, Bob Chilcote would go on to take the checkered and pick up his first feature win at Hilltop. Mike Lonas was second, Matt Shroyer third, Bob Daugherty fourth and Kevin Potts rounded out the top five.

With the largest car count this season at 22, the modlite division had heat race wins go to Nick Crider, Jeff Teeters, and Jason Darocha. The last chance win went to Eddie Smith. With the field set, the green was out and it was Jeff Teeters, in his first appearance, who would take the lead followed by Nick Crider. As the laps dwindled, Teeters would remain out front and go on to pick up his first feature win at the Hill. Second went to Nick Crider, third to Joe Burkhead, fourth to Jason Darocha and fifth to Rory Reed.

The Bugs-R-Gone trucks had a field of eight with Rolly Heyder picking up the only heat race win. After inverting the heat finish for the starting line-up for the feature, it was Dwayne Powell bringing the field to the green. With two restarts before a lap was in, the green was finally out and it was Jerry Gardner who would jump out front. Working his way up through the field from tail was Travis Winterringer who would battle with Joey Heyder for second. As the battle heated, trouble would cause Heyder to spin coming off of four to take the checkered. Nevertheless, after leading every lap, it was Jerry Gardner picking up the win followed by Travis Winterringer, Rolly Heyder, Josey Lillibridge and Joey Heyder.

Rounding out the night’s events were the Winning Edge Auto Body mini stocks with a field of 20. Heat race winners were Terry Adkins, Jerry Adkins and Kevin Markey. With the heats in the books, the top eight mini stocks would invert for the start of the feature, placing Kendra St. John on the pole. As she brought the field to the start, it was Nova Martin who would work around St. John to take the lead. However, after starting positions of seventh and eighth, Jerry Adkins and Terry Adkins would begin working their way through the field. Up to second Jerry Adkins would set his sight on Martin ultimately taking over the top spot and the win with Terry Adkins not far behind claiming the second spot. Finishing third was Nova Martin, fourth Brad Workman and fifth Blake Morris.
