Greg Oakes gets first win of year at Eriez Speedway!

McGuire and Reinwald pick up season-ending wins!

Hammett, PA, (September 26, 2015): A season high of 182 cars signed into the pits for the first night of the 3rd  Annual Eriez Speedway September Sweep. The Jay’s Auto Wrecking Super Late Models ran a full race card of four heats, two B-Mains, and a 35 lap feature won by Greg Oakes, his first of the season here.

The final Kandy’s Gentleman’s Club Limited Late Model feature at Eriez Speedway was claimed by Chris McGuire. The Limited Late Models had been competing at Eriez every week since 1985. For many seasons the class provided top notch racing with full fields but with the advent of the Crate Late Model division car counts began falling off with most nights this season having less than ten racers sign into the pit. The decision was painfully made to discontinue the class for the 2016 season and beyond.

The Clinger E-Mod Chassis Economods finished their first season at Eriez with a $750 to win season finale won by Eric Reinwald, his third Eriez feature win of the year. Qualifying heats were run for the Bonnell Collision Center RUSH Crate Late Models, the Plyler Overhead Door E-Mods, Nelson Lynwood Nursery Street Stocks, and Ran-Den Excavating Challengers. Day two of the 3rd annual September Sweep will see “B” Mains for the Bonnell Collision Crate Late Models the Ran-Den Excavating Challengers along with feature events for the Crates ($3000 to win), E-Mods ($2000 to win), and Street Stocks ($1500 to win), and the Ran-Den Excavating Challengers ($1200 to win). The Super Late Models will compete in a full card of heat and B-Mains followed by a $6000 to win 40-lap feature.

The Kandy’s Gentleman’s Club Limited Late Models were racing for $1000 to win with Mike Moon and Jimmy Johnson starting on the front row with Chris McGuire and 2015 track champion Ryan Scott in row two. Johnson led lap one with Scott coming to the front on lap two. At nine laps into the twenty lap season finale Wesley McCray spun in turn two with the front two spots now held by  Scott and McGuire, who were fighting for the lead as they had most of the season. At green McGuire took the lead in turn two then proceeded to build a lead over Scott, Dan Maxim, and Bill Holmes with Johnson back to fifth. McCray again spun at lap thirteen, slowing the field. Maxim quickly came to second but McGuire was opening a lead he would not relinquish, going on to the win while Maxim and Scott fought for runner-up honors. At the white flag Maxim had a narrow lead just as McCray spun again, setting up a one-lap dash for the money. McGuire won it by two lengths over Maxim with Scott third, Holmes fourth, and Johnson fifth.

The twenty Clinger Chassis Ecomomods wear brought to green by Devin Henry and Eric Reinwald with Reinwald leading the first two laps with yellow shown at that point when Terry Akerley slammed the front wall in a shower of sparks, ending his race. Reinwald led the field back to green with Henry second and Steve Haefke third. Only one lap of green was in the books before Dennis Hagg spun in turn four, bringing caution over the field for the second time. Reinwald brought the field back to green with Haefke right behind after a lap of racing. The two then opened a gap on third-running Henry with sixth-starting  Josh Mueller now fourth. At six compete Gary Miller Jr spun on the front straight, yet again slowing the event.  At green Henry got by Haefke for second then Haefke slid high in turn three, triggering a nine car pile-up. Only twelve of the original twenty cars were able to continue. After one lap of green Reinwald opened a lead with Henry now second, Mueller third, and Mike Harmon fourth. Mitch Wright looped his mount in turn three at lap thirteen for the next caution. Harmon and Brian Toto spun in turn three before another lap was done with Dennis Hagg getting sent to the pit for his part in the incident. With five laps remaining Reinwald was firmly in command, going on to his third win of the season over Mueller, Henry, Gary Miller Jr, and Ty Rhoades.

With $4000 on the line Steve Kania and Greg Oakes brought the twenty four car field to green with Oakes taking immediate command. Bump Hedman came to second early in the going with Charles Powell third and Kania back to fourth when caution flew at five laps in when Jared Miley slowed on the front straight. Russ King came to fourth at the green then Shane Clanton came to a halt on turn two just past the pit entrance with his left rear tire flat. Clanton retired to the pit during the yellow but returned before green again flew. After green Chub Frank came to fifth while up front Oakes was opening a lead over Charles Powell, now second, and King up to third. At ten complete Frank came to fourth then third a lap later. By thirteen complete Max Blair was into the top five from eleventh on the starting grid. At seventeen laps Oakes was lapping the rear of the field with King slowly closing the gap. Boom Briggs slowed on the back straight bringing yellow again over the field and closing the gap on the leader. For the green it was Oakes, King, Frank, Hedman, and Max Blair. Frank immediately took second at green with Hedman displacing King for third a lap later. Rob Blair got by son Max at twenty complete for fifth but Max was again fifth at twenty four laps. Oakes maintained a narrow lead over Frank with King falling behind and Max Blair fourth. With five to go Oakes was again catching lapped traffic and lengthening his lead. With two to go the leader had caught the rear of the field allowing Frank to move closer. At the checkers Oakes still had a one length lead over Frank with King third, Max Blair fourth, and Bump Hedman fifth.
