ST. HELENA, California (November 30, 2020) – The decision to venture south from the heart of the Golden State to take part in Arizona Speedway’s annual Copper Classic proved to be well-worth the miles logged, as St. Helena, California’s Rico Abreu secured back-to-back top-five finishes during the ASCS Southwest Region doubleheader, highlighting each of his starts with a third-place performance during the $5,000-to-win finale on Saturday.Abreu, driver of the Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing/Abreu Vineyards/Curb Records/Lucas Oil Products/The Wiser Agency/Self Made Racing/Salty’s BBQ/Whistle Stop Bar and Grill/Wiser Golf/J. Davidson Scrap Metal/No. 24 sprint car, led the majority of Saturday’s 30-lapper from the outside-front row, eventually surrendering the top spot to Elk Grove, California’s Kyle Larson with just eight laps remaining. A slight bobble on the cushion through turns three and four allowed Larson to sneak by. Carson Macedo, who helped create a California podium sweep, would also slip by Abreu just before the two-to-go signal was given. With 55 cars entered for action, Abreu opened the Copper Classic finale with a victory during his respective heat race and qualifier. Before snagging a podium run on Saturday, Abreu commenced Copper Classic weekend with a fourth-place finish during preliminary action on Friday; he started in the exact same position.“It was a fun weekend. We were happy to get a few more races in before calling it a season,” Rico Abreu said, who will end 2020 with six victories on the year. “I can’t thank my team enough for stepping up and making the trip to Arizona. It was a long weekend, but we raced well and put together some solid runs. That’s a great momentum boost heading into the off-season.”Rico Abreu and Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing will soon begin the scheduling process for 2021.
