The Tom Wood Group Indianapolis Speedrome Powered by Lincoln Tech had an afternoon challenge from Mother Nature. But the track crew, racers and fans overcame a lingering pop up shower July 3rd to complete a revised schedule of features only for four tradition classes. There were some good stories from the evening.
Eddie VanMeter’s incredible return to Brown’s Oil Service Late Model Figure 8 racing continued Wednesday. He snagged the lead from early leaders Cory Harmon and Mark Tunny as well as holding off the challenge of Ben Tunny to rack up his league-leading 4th victory of 2019. Ben stood second at the finish followed by Mark, Austin Tunny, and Harmon. Speaking of division best in wins, Larry Hahn broke the tie with son Jordan for most in the Sherley Unlimited Snow Company Stocks. Larry slipped past Andrew Teepe in the waiting circuits to hoist his third trophy. Alex Ware was the race runner-up trailed by Teepe, Kenny McDonough, and Kody Rackley. It was nice to see several out of town drivers on hand this night.
The theme continued in the Shelbyville Auto Parts Thundercars. Just days after Nate Canter tied Joe Gonder Jr for most victories in class this season, Gonder struck back. Joe quickly hit all the right holes to emerge out front and roll to his third checkered flag of the championship. Herbie Conrad took second place with Nate Canter, Dale Harper, and Nick Canter filling the top five. Breaking the evenings storyline were the Last Chance Wrecker Factory Front Wheel Drives. We saw a new winner for 2019 with Elijah Brothers. The young gun was shot out of a cannon speeding to a nearly 7-second win. Billy Bartholomew Jr was the runner up followed by, Andrew Brown, Ricky Johnson, and Don VanValkenburg III
