WIR’S “THURSDAY NIGHT THUNDER” OPENER PEGGED FOR MAY 23, 2019

 

(KAUKAUNA, WI ) Feb 8 – The Fox River Racing Club has announced its 2019 season opening “Thursday night Thunder” race at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna will take place Thursday, May 23 presented by the “X Bar” in Kaukauna with an earlier start time weekly in ’19 at 6:30 p.m.

 

The weekly Thursday night show has consistently boasted one of the highest weekly super late model car counts in the Midwest, with a semi-feature being run every night in the division in 2018. The super late models will be back weekly, along with late models on the half-mile. On the quarter-mile the WIR ¼ mile late models will be back with seven dates, along with super stocks, sport trucks, Sizzlin’4’s, a pair of Pavement Pounder dirt sportmod races, and the Figure 8’s.

 

An ambitious schedule of events for the D-shaped, half-mile paved oval will include the 48th running of the Red, White and Blue state championship series presented by Ken’s Sports. The Red race will be June 13, White race July 11 and Blue race August 1.

 

Many FRRC teams are expected to partake in the TUNDRA super late model series opener Saturday May 11. The TUNDRA lid-lifter will be the first official race of the year on the half-mile.

 

The traditional “Tuesday Biggie” – the Dixieland 250 ARCA Midwest Tour super late model event will be held Tuesday August 6. An additional ARCA MT event be held Monday Memorial Day May 27 with the Memorial Day Triple 50’s.

 

A giant fireworks display presented by Budweiser is slated for Thursday night, July 4 with Kurz Industrial Solutions sponsoring Veteran’s night July 18.

 

The “Pavement Pounder” dirt sportmods will return for a pair of events on Thursday nights June 27 and August 22, respectively. The Rich Somers Memorial presented by Viking Electric Supply will also be on the 22nd. The Pavement Pounder sportmods appearances will be presented by Winnegamie Home Builders Association for the 2nd straight year. 

 

The PCMC/Bruce Mueller All Star Memorial will be run July 25.

 

For the kids the Big Wheel races are slated on Al Huss Auto/Valley Gasket night June 6 with the Kid’s Coin Toss presented by Fast Comfort VIP Suites taking place June 27.

 

The season will wrap up with the Valley Liquor-sponsored Fan Appreciation Night featuring free beer and corn after the races on championship night August 29.

 

“It’s truly our goal to get our shows done by 9 p.m. each night so fans can come into the pit area afterwards and mingle with the race teams,” said FRRC president Tom Gee. “We also plan on running our super late model feature before the late model feature each night as well.”  

 

The second annual “WIR pre-season pit party” will take place Thursday night May 16. Fans young and not-so-young are welcome into the pit area free of charge that day as fans can visit with the FRRC teams up-close-and-personal as most will have their racers on display. A book signing featuring long time WIR pace car driver and local racing legend Roger “The Bear” Regeth and “The Tweedy Bird” J.J. Smith will take place during the party to support of the book “The Bird & The Bear.” The book was penned by FRRC public relations director Joe Verdegan and chronicles the colorful careers of these two legendary wheelmen.

 

Tuesday night oval practices are slated to begin on May 7 with Saturday, May 18 serving as the annual FRRC practice and inspection day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Spectator admission is free that day.
