NEW NIGHT, “NEW” PROMOTERS FOR EAGLE RIVER SPEEDWAY IN ‘19 (Locals Pat & Patti Zdroik return to promoting the third-mile clay oval – return to Tuesday nights)

(EAGLE RIVER, WI ) Feb 5 – Eagle River Speedway’s third-mile clay oval will see a return to Tuesday nights and will also welcome back a couple that has promoted the track twice before.

Eagle River’s Pat & Patti Zdroik have agreed to take over operation of the track from owner Michael Kocourek and have vowed a return to the once popular Tuesday nights that saw the track run on for many seasons.

When they aren’t racing Zdroik’s own and operate Badger Truck Repair in Eagle River. As a former racer himself and promoter of the track Pat Zdroik said the move back to Tuesday nights was a no brainer. “Truth is when we ran the mid-week shows our crowds were pretty strong and that included a lot of visitors who were vacationing from Southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois,” Zdroik said. “Once summer began we’d often draw a ton of folks who rented cabins up this way all week. We provided a great slice of entertainment for them on Tuesday nights. It’s our plan to get back to that.”

In addition to filling the grandstands the move back to racing mid-week is expected to boost car counts. “I think with the Tuesday venue it gives us a little better shot at having some outside cars pop in from time to time,” Zdroik explained. “Between our closest dirt tracks at Tomahawk and Three Lakes there is probably a base of 24 to 25 active B modified drivers. With our Tuesday venue it gives drivers another option. With the Tuesday venue it gives the fine folks in our own Eagle River area a chance to come and enjoy the races as many of them work weekends as this is a tourist-based area.”

The headlining class on Tuesdays at Eagle River will be the B Modifieds. “We aren’t running any sanction this year in any divisions,” Zdroik explained. “Our B mod class welcomes both WISSOTA-style B mods, IMCA-style sportmods and USRA B mods. The rules packages for these cars here at Eagle River are very close and all three divisions have raced together competitively here over the years.”

Other divisions that will compete weekly include Street Stocks, Trucks, Pure Stocks and 4 Bangers. “We also plan on running the Junior Sprints on roughly an every-other-week basis,” Zdroik explained. “If we can sustain healthy enough car counts in that class we may award them more nights. We also plan on running a couple of Micro 600 sprint specials as well.” A couple of novelty events and other special races are expected to be announced in the near future, including a high-paying “B Mod Shootout” on Tuesday, July 2.

Eagle River will also have a veteran track announcer and public relations director assist the track in Joe Verdegan. A Green Bay native, Verdegan will work at Eagle River on a part time basis in ’19 and full time in 2020 after his permanent move up north. Former 4 banger driver Quentin Morrison will also work behind the mic at Eagle River.

A 13-date schedule is slated, with the opening night scheduled to take place on Sunday May 26 Memorial Day weekend. A practice date is expected to be announced prior to the opener. The pit area will open at 5:30 p.m. with the grandstand opening at 6 p.m. The first green flag is ready to fly tentatively at 7:15 p.m.
