ST. HELENA, Calif. (September 4, 2018) – Rico Abreu’s trip to the Evergreen State with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series was eventful, as well as successful, finishing no worse than 11th during three starts in four days at two different facilities, highlighting his visit to Washington with a podium run at Skagit Speedway on Friday evening, August 31. It was Abreu’s fourth top-five finish of the 2018 season against the Greatest Show On Dirt, bumping his overall top-five total to eight.

For Abreu, the third place finish at Skagit Speedway was the product of a near-perfect evening in Burlington, Wash., igniting the Outlaw Energy Showdown weekend with a second place finish during his respective heat race, followed by a dash victory. Starting from the pole position, Abreu led the first circuit before losing the top spot, ultimately battling within the top-five the entire distance before finishing third at the line.

Abreu’s Outlaw Energy Showdown campaign continued on Saturday evening, September 1, with an 11th place finish during main event competition, hard charging from the outside of row nine to do so. The West Coast product eventually capped-off the long, holiday weekend with a top-ten finish at Grays Harbor Raceway on Monday, September 3. The top-ten performance, advancing from 12th to finish tenth, was Abreu’s tenth of the year during action with the World of Outlaws, now 17th in the Series’ championship standings despite only making 28 starts in 2018.

“It was a fun weekend. I think we had the potential to finish higher than where we did on Saturday and Monday, but we’re just happy and thankful to have the opportunity to be out here racing with these guys,” Rico Abreu said, driver of the Rico Abreu Racing/Abreu Vineyards/Alpinestars/Lucas Oil/Rhino Wipe/Priority Aviation/No. 24 sprint car. “The podium finish on Friday was a great result for us. I’m proud of my team. They make results like this possible. They all work hard and never give up. Those are qualities that can be hard to find. Luckily, I don’t have to look hard.”

Rico Abreu’s upcoming schedule has yet to be determined. If all goes according to plan, the St. Helena, Calif., native will continue the World of Outlaws West Coast Swing and rejoin the Series during starts in Oregon and California over the next five days, first visiting Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore., on Wednesday, September 5, followed by a pair of stops at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., on Friday and Saturday, September 7 & 8.
