The Labor Day weekend at Crystal Motor Speedway was supposed to have been a gathering of fans and friends to watch the last visit of several special series before the season drew to an end. Instead, it became a flood watch.

The Saturday portion never got off the ground, being called shortly after 1 PM, as a persistent rain besieged the area, ruining the last visit to the speedway by the SOD Sprints.

Sunday got off to a better start until just before starting time, when a quick, but heavy rain fell. The track personnel worked to get the clay settled down again, and racing began almost two hours late. Several heat races were run, each getting faster than the last, but right after a break to get in the annual fireworks display, another storm cell moved in, causing the cancellation of the event.

The speedway is offering an exclusive deal for those in attendance toward a two-day admission pass for the last event of the season if you still have your Sunday night ticket. The annual Great Lakes Nationals will be held September 15th and 16th. See the track website for full details at crystalmotorspeedway.com
