BONUS CASH FOR FIRST TIME WIR PAVEMENT POUNDER

WINNER IN DIRT SPORTMODS AT WIR AUGUST 16

(CHAMPION TO BE CROWNED, BONUS CASH DOLED OUT TO TOP 10 POINT FINISHERS)

(Kaukauna, WI) – First time dirt sportmod drivers will battle for some extra dough at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna Thursday, August 16 during the third and final leg of the Pavement Pounder series presented by Winnegamie Home Builders Association.

Fox Cities Towing will throw an additional $200 cash to the winner of the 20 lap feature if that driver is racing in a Pavement Pounder event for the first time at WIR in 2018. With the regular winnings that driver would take home a total of $400 for the victory.

“Last time these guys ran here in July they had a great feature finish,” said Fox River Racing Club president Tom Gee. “With this bonus cash Nick Van of Fox Cities Towing is doling out we’re hoping to shake a few more sportmod guys to come out and have fun.”

The event, like the other two races, will feature a draw/redraw format.

In addition one lucky sportmod driver will walk off with a $500 bonus as the first ever crowned Pavement Pounder sportmod series champion in the three race series.

Appleton’s Brock Saunders captured both series wins on the track’s quarter-mile, paved oval June 14 and July 19. Although he drew the pole position to start the feature on July 19, Saunders win was anything but a gimme as Seymour teenager Jayden Schmidt passed Saunders for the lead with three laps to go, only to slide up out of the groove and hand the lead back to Saunders in a thrilling finish.

Heading into August 19 Saunders holds a five point edge over Schmidt. The series winner will pocket $500 with the top ten in the final points tally receiving bonus point fund cash. A drawing will be held for drivers who attended all three shows, the winner receiving a $300 gift certificate from Woody’s Sign in Sturgeon Bay. The certificate will be applicable towards a vinyl lettering job or apparel. The cash point fund pays 10 positions deep.

To date, 21 different local dirt track drivers have taken to WIR’s quarter-mile to “play on the pavement” in the Pavement Pounder Series in ’18.

Werner Electric Supply will sponsor the action on August 16. Big Wheel races for the kids will take place with racing getting underway at 6:45 p.m.
