WIR RACES RAINED OUT AUGUST 2

(DIXIELAND 250, BLUE RACE MARK BUSY WEEK AT D-SHAPED HALF-MILE)

(Kaukauna, WI)  – Mother Nature finally got her checkered flag at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna Thursday, August 2.

It was the first rainout of the year for the track’s “Thursday Night Thunder” program under the direction of the Fox River Racing Club.

Next week marks an extremely busy week at WIR, as two big events will take place within 72 hours of each other.

Tuesday, August 7 the Dixieland 250 will take place with the ARCA Midwest Tour. A number of FRRC super late model teams are committed to running this event.

On Thursday night, August 9 the “Blue Race” presented by Ken’s Sports will take place.

A pair of 35 lap super late models features are on tap for the third and final leg of the Red, White and Blue state championships.

Heading into the final leg just two points separate leader “Mighty Maxwell” Schultz of Reedsville from defending R, W & B state champ Bobby Kendall of Montello. Each feature will pay $1,000 to the winner while half pay and half points will be paid for the balance of the field for each feature.

Crews will have a 10 minute break on the frontstretch in between the two features where fans will get an up close look at the pit crew members working on their race cars. The winner of the first 35 lap feature will roll the die with the invert being 8 plus whatever comes up on the dice, meaning the winner of the first 35 lapper could start anywhere from 9th thru 14th in feature number two.

“We think the format of the twin 35’s will be an exciting one for fans as drivers will be out of their cars and can be interviewed during the break,” said Fox River Racing Club president Tom Gee. “It’s a four tire show so teams can race with fresh rubber on all four corners. The Red and White races have been solid and we are expecting the same for the Blue race, too.”

Fox Cities Towing will be sponsoring a $100 bonus to any driver who is able to garner a top five finish in both features.

To date 35 different super late model drivers have earned points in the “Red” and “White” races.

In the late models Nathan Van Wychen of Kaukauna holds a three point edge over former Red, White and Blue champion Eddie Muenster with Markesan’s Jesse Bernhagen and Neenah’s Braison Bennett only four points out of the lead while Menasha’s George Schwalbach holds a five point edge over Kaukauna’s Randy Theimer in the super stocks.

Appleton’s Kylee Vandermoss holds a 13 point lead over Jason Plutz of Menasha in the sport trucks and in the Sizzlin’ 4’s Sheboygan’s Brody Rivest has a five point advantage over Appleton drivers Andy Miller and Mike Klein.

Qualifying gets underway at 5:45 p.m. with the first green flag flying at 6:45 p.m. A full field of late model, WIR ¼ mile late model, sport truck, super stocks, Sizzlin’ 4’s and Figure 8’s will also compete.
