Meet the Driver’s Night at Moler Raceway Park!!

6-15-18 – Williamsburg, OH – A full field of late models were on hand for Meet the Drivers Night!!  It was Robby Hensley and Michael Hildebrand taking heat race wins and setting the 19 car starting lineup. At the drop of the green flag Hensley jumped to the early lead with Josh Rice in close pursuit. Rice would inch ahead of Hensley on lap 7 only to see the caution quickly come out for the spinning machine of Bill Sheets. Hensley would restart in the lead but it was Kody Evans who would leap past Rice to take over 2nd spot and challenge the leader. Despite numerous cautions throughout the event Hensley was able to hold off Evans but with 4 laps remaining Evans was able to inch ahead of Hensley at the line and take over the top spot. Evans would restart in the lead on lap 22 and go on to claim his first win of 2018 in his Performance Transport sponsored machine. Hensley would come home in 2nd with Mike Meyers, Graylin Prince and James Rice completing the top five spots.

The Matt’s Graphic UMP Modified division would finally finish the 3 race chase program after many mother nature cancellations. Adam Stricker and Josh Rice took the wins in the heat races.  In the feature event it was some great racing through the pack but the battle up front was one for the ages as Adam Stricker would have his Elite Chassis machine on a rail on the bottom of the racetrack while Josh Rice had his 2Brothers machine rolling on the topside. Just behind them Kenny Johnson and Mark Dickson were battling side-by-side for most of the race for the third spot with Jimmy Lennex just looking for an open lane on the racetrack. With 8 laps to go Stricker would begin pulling away from Rice and would park his Stricker Auto Parts, Just Right Heating-N-Cooling machine in victory lane earning the $1500 winner’s prize. As a result of Joey Kramer’s lap 18 contact with the wall and DNF Stricker would also claim the $500 3 race chase bonus money. Completing the top five spots were Rice, Kenny Johnson, Mark Dickson, and Jimmy Lennex.

The Cohen Recycling Sport Mods would see plenty of twists and turns both on and off of the racetrack. On the track it was Tommy Pribble, BJ Branham, and Dallas Pickelheimer taking heat race wins and setting the lineup. In the feature it was Pribble to the lead early but Reed Bishop would charge from fourth to the top spot on lap 4. Following a restart Pribble and BJ Branham would both get past the leader and reclaim the top 2 spots. There were great battles throughout the pack in what was a very close field of cars. Lap 11 would see the top 2 cars make contact with BJ Branham spinning down the backstretch and other cars in the top five would make contact and be involved. On the restart it was Pribble leading the field to the checkers with Chris Shelton Jr in second but he would be docked 2 spots for jumping the last restart. Pribble would then be DQ’d in tech inspection crediting the win to Reed Bishop of Bidwell, Ohio in his Fosters Inc sponsored machine. CJ Branham would be credited with 2nd spot with Shelton earning 3rd place. Marc Cissna and BJ Branham would complete the top five positions.

The DRC Crazy Compacts would nearly go green to checkered in their feature event as Brandon Stephens of Dry Ridge, Ky would lead the entire way to claim yet another win on the season. The race was only slowed with 2 laps remaining as Devin Puckett would have mechanical issues while running in the top five. Behind Stephens at the finish was Kevin Stamper, Ashley Logan, Clyde Pack, and Andrew Traylor. Logan and Stephens were heat race winners.

The VARC, the Vintage American Racing Club was on hand with 10 of their unique machines and their feature event was won by Butch Evans of Circleville, Ohio in his 1970’s era Alfa Romeo midget. John Lawhorn of Sinking Springs, Ohio won the heat race in his USAC Champ car.

The Inaugural Cincinnasty Classic at Moler Raceway Park!!

6-29-18 – Williamsburg, OH – Friday night at Moler Raceway Park would see a loaded schedule of racing action and loads of fun for the Inaugural “Cincinnasty Classic” and Gunner’s Shooting Supply Sport Mod Shootout. In addition to the Super Late Models, Matt’s Graphics UMP Modifieds, Sport Modifieds, and TheDRC.net Crazy Compacts, the Ohio Valley Roofers Legends cars would also make an appearance along with a 50 lap Enduro event and a beer pong tournament to follow the evening’s racing.

The Super Late Models would start the evening off with qualifying heats to set the field for the 22 lap “Cincinnasty Classic” in memory of the late Zach Gilikson who wore the number 22. Defending track champion Kody Evans would claim the victory in heat 1 with Joe Brewer fending off Duane Chamberlain in heat 2 to set the field for the main event. With Evans and Brewer on the front row Evans would jump to the lead early with Chamberlain quickly moving to 2nd followed by a charging Robby “Big Show” Hensley. Chamberlain and Hensely would battle fiercely for 2nd throughout the event but Evans would never relinquish the lead controlling the race from start to finish to claim his 2nd straight victory at MRP. Chamberlain and Hensely would follow with Josh Rice and multi-time track champion John Whitney Jr. charging from the back of the field to round out the top 5 of the first Cincinnasty Classic.

The Gunner’s Shooting Supply Sport Mod Shootout would follow with a stout field of 27 cars boasting some of the top Sport Mods in the region vying to take home the increased purse of $1,022. It would take 3 heats and a B-Main to set the lineup for the feature event. Following a victory in his first ever visit to MRP the week prior Bidwell Ohio’s Reed Bishop would take the win and pole position for the main event holding off West Virginia’s James Dennis in heat 1. Heat 2 would see another newcomer out front with Laurelville Ohio driver Jamey Adams taking the win in his first visit of the season. Heat 3 would see more familiar faces as defending track champion Dallas Pickelheimer battled with Matt Watson before emerging victorious. After Chris Shelton Jr’s victory in the B-Main the field would be set. Bishop would jump to an early lead from the pole followed closely by Adams and Dennis. After 8 laps Dennis managed to get by Adams for 2nd and went to work on Bishop for the lead. The two would race side-by-side for the next several laps with Bishop maintaining the slimmest of leads. Finally, with 2 laps to go Dennis would make his move to take the lead and claim the victory in the biggest Sport Mod race in the history of MRP thus far in his first ever visit to the track with Bishop taking 2nd and Adams would have to settle for 3rd followed by Jeremie Bretz and Pickleheimer rounding out the top 5.

The Matt’s Graphics UMP Modified division would take the track next and would once again see a local pitted against an out-of-towner this time with defending track champ Jimmy Lennex Jr. of Maysville KY and Washington WV’s Kenny Johnson on the front row for the A-Main. Lennex would get out front on the initial start and lead the first few laps before being overtaken by Johnson who would go on to claim his first victory at MRP. Lennex would hang on for a 2nd place finish holding off Adam Stricker at the checkers who had charged all the way from the tail of the field. Shawn Brown and Tyler Allison would round out the top 5.

The fans at MRP were treated to a second appearance of the Ohio Valley Roofer’s Legends cars series at the track this season with 17 Legends on hand to battle it out with their usual brand of hard but clean racing. When the dust settled it was a familiar face left standing in victory lane with former Modified competitor at MRP and longtime local racer Shaun Scott claiming the victory over Jarren Perdue, Tom Partin, Josh Francis, and Doug Estle.

TheDRC.net Crazy Compacts would be led to the green by heat race winners Brandon Stephens and Devin Puckett. Stephens would jump to the lead early and never look back to continue his hot streak by leading every lap of every race he appeared in, enroute to his 3rd straight victory and 3rd overall on the season at MRP. The race would be for 2nd place.  And 5 laps in Jake Stamper overtook Puckett to claim the runner-up position. Puckett would come home 3rd followed by Chris Shelton Sr. and a hard charging Bill Turner.

After 5 classes of racing action the MRP faithful got to experience an Enduro race at the track, for only the 2nd time in history but they hope to make it a monthly event.  After adding more water to make the surface more slippery and explaining the rules the fans were treated to 50 laps of Enduro racing fun. It was Tim Howard who would emerge from the madness as the winner to cap off a great night at MRP!

Next up – July 6, 2018 – Phantom Fireworks, Amelia Ohio puts on One of The Best Fireworks shows in the area right here at MRP during Intermission, along with Super Late Models $1500 to Win, Matt’s Graphics UMP Modifieds, Cohen Recycling Sport Mods and TheDRC Crazy Compacts! www.molerracewaypark.com
