PRP Press Release

Portsmouth Raceway Park had an incredible turnout for the R.W. Rental and Supply Independence 50.  With 38 Late Models, 37 Modifieds, and a dozen Limited Lates – there was plenty of action throughout the evening.

Jason Jameson held off some of the best in The Lucas Oil Late Model Series to nab the 50-lap feature.  Devin Gilpin led flag to flag in the Modifieds, and Matt Melvin took the checkers in the Limited Lates.

The $12,000 win scored by Lawrenceburg, IN’s Jason Jameson marked the biggest victory of his career and he certainly had to work for it.

Pounding the cushion throughout the entire A-Main, Jameson managed to outduel Josh Richards, Scott Bloomquist, and others.  Jameson would start from the pole and lead the first 12 laps before Bloomquist got by.  Tennessean Scott Bloomquist would lead until lap 32 when Jameson would re-take the lead in the midst of heavy traffic.

On a lap 34 restart, Richards would get by Jameson to lead from the middle of turns one and two until turn three where Jameson would dive bomb into the third turn to retake the top spot.  While Richards never officially led a lap, the one straightaway he was out front on lap 34 proved to be the last time anyone other than Jameson would be at the point.

Finishing behind Jameson were Richards, Bloomquist, Rod Conley, and Tim McCreadie.  Michael Chilton, Hudson O’Neal, Jimmy Owens, Mason Zeigler, and Gregg Satterlee rounded out the top 10.

Wheelersburg’s Rod Conley was the highest finishing local.  He ran second for awhile before finishing fourth.  The top six finishers represented six different states – Indiana, West Virginia, Tennessee, Ohio, New York, and Kentucky.

Gilpin had the field covered in the R.W. Rental and Supplies Modifieds.  The Columbus, IN driver led every lap of a caution-free, 20-lap feature.  Nathon Loney, Brandon Hutchinson, Tony DeHart, and Tyler Smith made up the top five with Jimmy Lennex, Justin Jacobs, Tim Tribby, James Grigsby, and Eddie Harmon rounding out the top 10.

Grigsby advanced seven positions to earn the Markwest Ranger Pipeline Hard Charger Award.  Brian Skaggs was the Dynamic Shock Services Fast Qualifier, but he was sidelined early on in his heat due to mechanical issues.

Matt Melvin from Ironton became the first O’Reilly Auto Parts Limited Late Model driver to win multiple features in 2018.  Cameron Logan, Billy Staker, Evyian Terry, Ronnie Whitt, Randy Ross, Shane Bailey, Harold Terry, and Mike Meyers rounded out the top 10.

PRP will be back in action on Saturday, July 14th featuring Giovanni’s Pizza Late Models, R.W. Rental and Supplies Modifieds, O’Reilly Auto Parts Limited Lates, and EMC2 Party Rentals and Inflatables Sport Mods.  It will be Kids Night.  All children ages 12 and under will receive free general admission.  The highlighted race of the evening will be The Todd Galloway Memorial Limited Late Model Feature presented by Premier Pre-cast Products paying $1,000 to win.
