Saturday night at Crystal Motor Speedway was the Mid-Season Championship night with 128 cars in the pits, all sponsored by Engine Pro.

One of the annual fan favorite events, the ‘Twin Flinn’ race was also held. This race is two different races being run at the same time, in opposite directions. Jeremy Sheets and Robert Zeigler took the features.

In the KFC Late Model event, Zack Olger set the pace until he suffered mechanical problems after a duel with Ryan VanderVeen. VanderVeen held the lead until only nine laps were remaining, handing the lead off to Kyle Borgman of Muskegon who went on to take the event. Josh Borton, Crystal, took second, followed by Logan Love of Vestaburg, Mike VanderMark Jr., Cedar Springs, and David Hilliker of Midland. Rob Taylor of Muskegon and Borgman grabbed B Main wins, with heats falling to VanderVeen, Six Lakes, Tyler Norton, Midland, and Ryan Lanphierd of Midland.

Milt Montgomery of Sheridan took the Lane Automotive IMCA Modified feature only to be disqualified after losing a muffler in a tight battle with Greenville’s Mitchell Hunt. Hunt was followed by AJ Ward, Ionia, Matt Szecsodi, Clio, Casey Tasker, Fenwick, and Chad May of Rockford. Heats went to Tasker, Montgomery, and May.

The Port City Racing Pro Stock feature was a battle between Greenville’s Blake Hollenbeck and multiple division champion Jeff Kohn of Sheridan. Hollenbeck managed to keep Kohn behind to pick up the win. Kohn brought home second, followed by Rob Brillhart, Crystal, Andrew Fidler, Elwell, and Brandon Cunningham of Sheridan. Kohn won the heat event.

In the Engine Pro Pro Truck event, Lansing’s Paul Grosnickle held off a hard-charging Curtis Rice from Muskegon for the win. Kenny Dittenber, Carson City, picked up third, followed by Ashlee Scott, Vestaburg, and Jim Beltz of Kent City. Grosnickle also scored the heat win.

Next Level Graphics & Design LLC Street Stocks saw Robbie Sternberg of Muskegon edge out Dustin Weber coming out of turn four to take a hotly contested race. George Wease of Hubbardston was third, followed by Dale Kaake, Cass City, and Tim DeGroft Jr, Carson City. Wease picked up the B Main win, with heats being chalked up by Jarrett Monk, Alma, DeGroft Jr., and Kaake.

Collin Schafer of Muir took the Races on the Web Flinn Stock feature after a race-long fight with second place Al Ridgeway of Sheridan. Jarred Wonsey of Sumner brought home third place, followed by James Bannister, St. Johns, and Ronald Fuhrman of Belding. Jason Barrus of Sheridan and Schafer picked up wins in the heat events.

The Greenville Daily News Mini Wedge beginner’s division saw Saginaw’s Landyn Neitling take the 6-9-year-old feature, followed by Eli Fellows, Crystal, Jazzlyn Hale, Crystal, Teegan Williams, Stanton, and Mikah Kurkowski of Sidney. June Dora of Fenwick and Neitling grabbed heat victories.

The 10 to the 14-year-old event went to Andrew Bogart of Howard City, beating out Zayden Olger, St. Johns, Bryant VanderMark, Greenville, Lilyann Montgomery, Crystal, and Brent Wonch of Stanton.

Next week at Crystal Motor Speedway finds the Great Lakes Super Sprints for their second event of the season. The Late Models will have the night off. Adults are $12, kids 5-11 are $5, and pit passes are $30. Gates open at 4:30 PM with racing getting started at 7:30.
