STOUT FIELD OF CLOSE TO THREE DOZEN SUPER LATES EXPECTED AT

WIR FOR 47TH ANNUAL RED, WHITE & BLUE RACE JUNE 7

(Kaukauna, WI)  – A stout field of close to 35 super late models – among the best in the business- are expected to roll through the gates at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna Thursday, June 7 for the first leg of the 47th annual Red, White and Blue state championship series presented by Ken’s Sports of Kaukauna.

To date 24 different drivers have scored super late model Red, White & Blue state championship titles at WIR dating back several decades. Ageless Lowell Bennett, who’s 59, will be gunning for his sixth RW&B state championship. Bennett has won the second most series titles, second only to short track legend Dick Trickle. The Wisconsin Rapids ace captured the very first series crown in 1972 and won seven titles. Appleton’s Jeff Van Oudenhoven is the next active driver who holds three crowns. Other former series champions who are still active drivers either full or part time include Edgerton’s Casey Johnson (2016), Slinger’s Steve Apel (2015), Reedsville’s Maxwell Schultz (2014) and last year’s champion Bobby Kendall of Montello.

Other drivers expected to join the Thursday night regulars include Slinger Speedway standouts Steve Apel of Slinger, Mike Egan and Dennis Prunty of Knowles. Michigan drivers Kris Kelly from Vulcan and Robby Iverson from Escanaba will also make their Thursday night debut on June 7th along with Menominee, Michigan’s Dalton Zehr, who’ll pilot the Satorius Motorsports entry.

“If we get 35 super late model drivers that would be great,” said Fox River Racing Club president Tom Gee. “If we get a minimum of 31 super late models our feature field will include 18 drivers in by their qualifying time, four semi-feature transfers and two FRRC points provisionals. Either way the 47th annual Red, White & Blue is shaping up to be a dandy.”

The other Red, White and Blue dates scheduled are July 12 and August 9.

Qualifying gets underway at 5:45 p.m. with the first green flag flying at 6:45 p.m. A full field of late model, WIR ¼ mile late model, sport truck, super stocks, Sizzlin’ 4’s and Figure 8’s will also compete.
