Over 154 cars attended the 2018 opening event at Crystal Motor Speedway Saturday night. In the Late Model event, Ryan Lanphierd scored the win, followed by Brandon Thirlby, Derrick Hilliker, Josh Borton, Scott Baker, Carl Ries, Josh Knoll, David Mielke, Mike VanderMark Jr., and Steven Hilliker. Steven Hilliker advanced to the main event by winning the B Main, with heats wins falling to Ryan VanderVeen, Baker, and Garrett Wiles.
AJ Ward started his season out with a win in the IMCA Modified event over Brenten DeYoung, Brady Hollenbeck, Matt Szecsodi, Austin Wonch, Chad Wernette, John DeYoung Jr, Mitchell Hunt, Milt Montgomery, and Nick Stormzand. Heats were claimed by Wonch, Ward, and Gary VanderMark.
In the Flinn Stock division, Mike Currier kicked off his 2018 season with a win over Cory Gumm, Collin Schafer, Mack Piper, Brandon Tichelaar, TJ Sherrell, Robert Foster, Kolby Rohn, Ronald Fuhrman, and Mike Dexter. Currier and Schafer grabbed heats wins.
Nate Jones picked up the 2018 season where he left off in 2017 by winning the Pro Stock main event over Don Rohn, Ryan Teeter, Rob Brillhart, TJ Gilbert, Blake Hollenbeck, Jeremy Spencer, Chad Spencer, Kyle Hunt, and Jaycee Baker. Gilbert and Rohn picked up the opening heat wins of the year.
Perennial top runner Curtis Rice also got his 2018 season off and running right as he won the Pro Truck event over Ashlee Scott, Jim Beltz, Kenny Dittenber, Darin Lund, Scott Lutterloh, Bobby McQueen, Tim Sooy, Paul Grosnickle, and Rob Putt. Rice also won the heat event.
The Mini-Wedge beginner divisions saw Zayden Buskirk take the 6-9 year-old event over Mikah Kurkowski, Landyn Neitling, Jazzlyn Hale, Delano Hale, Teegan Williams, June Dora, Tim Painter, Peyton Cunningham, and Eli Fellows. Jazzlyn Hale and Kurkowski picked up the two heat events.
In the 10-14 year-old class, Thomas Parker grabbed the win over Andrew Bogart, Landon Miller, Bryant VanderMark, Danica Woodward, Lilyann Montgomery, and Ryan Read. Parker also picked up the heat win.
The Sprints on Dirt (SOD Sprints) main event was taken by Zane Devault. Chad Blonde brought his ride home in the second position, followed by Ricky Ferkel, Ryan Grubaugh, Gregg Dalman, Jay Steinbach, Boston Mead, Adam Cruea, Joe Swanson, and Shawn Valenti. Cruea, Blonde, and Matt Foos scored heat wins.
Next week at Crystal Motor Speedway is a full show of all seven of the regular divisions and is sponsored by the Michigan One Credit Union. Gates open at 4:30 with racing beginning at 7:30.
