Series Also Adds Fox River Racing Club Late Models as Support Class

PORTAGE, Wis. (March 22, 2018) – For the first time since visiting the historic half-mile in 2014, the TUNDRA Super Late Model Series Powered by Wisconsin Potatoes will be racing under the lights at Wisconsin International Raceway.

Originally scheduled for a 2 p.m. start time on Saturday, May 12, Kroll’s West Round One will see the first green flag drop at 6:45 p.m., the usual start time for racing at WIR.

“There were several reasons to make the move,” said TUNDRA representative Matt Panure. “Fans at WIR are accustomed to night racing, and we look forward to delivering a spectacle to kick off their race season. Hopefully Mother Nature keeps the temperature pleasant for us into the evening hours.”

Along with the move, the series has also removed the Friday shake-down session. However, the pits will open early on Saturday with practice beginning at 11 a.m. Qualifying will take place at 5:15 p.m., leaving nearly six hours for teams to become acquainted with the track. WIR and the Fox River Racing Club will also host an open practice the previous Saturday.

Another new wrinkle in TUNDRA’s appearance at WIR will be the addition of the Fox River Racing Club Late Models. The class attracts around 20 competitors each week with many showing interest in joining for Round One. Late Models from surrounding tracks and those falling under the Big 8 rule book are encouraged to attend.

“There are many Thursday nights where the Late Models will leave you on the edge of your seat,” Panure said. “These drivers bring local flavor and are highly entertaining. They’ll be a great addition to the program.”

In addition, the TUNDRA Sportsman will return on the half-mile. The division debuted on the half-mile two seasons ago and is a combination of Sportsman and Street Stock type cars from across the Midwest. Dave Trute has been victorious in both appearances so far.

More information on Kroll’s West Round One – including a full schedule of events – will be available through the TUNDRA Super Late Model Series Web site in the coming weeks.
