It was a hot summer night for racing at Wayne County Speedway on AG Pro and Lil Badger Tool Sales night as the drivers were not only chasing after wins plus points in the O’Reilly Auto Parts ‘Race to the Championship’ along with  the Super Stock’s Stake’s Shortstop ‘Summer Series’, the Mini Stock’s NewFast Motorsports ‘Summer Series’ and the Attica Raceway Park/ Wayne County Speedway Super Late Model Series points. Melling Automotive also had special prizes for the drivers and fans. The VARC race cars were also performed in the nights action.

The feature action would start with the Malcuit Tavern Super Late Models taking to the track and at the drop of the green flag, Wooster’s J R Gentry would take his pole position starting spot and quickly open up a lead as Brad Malcuit and Charlie Duncan would duel for second until lap six as 8th starting Doug Drown would edge past Duncan on that lap and then take second on lap eight from Malcuit who returned the favor on the next circuit before Drown would permanently take second on lap ten. As those three raced for second, Gentry and his El Campesino, Holmes Pest Control and Malcuit Engines #14 had built a huge lead and with the 25 lap race going caution free, Gentry would have more than a straightaway advantage over Drown when the checkered flag waved to post his first win of the season and his fourth ARP/WCS career win. For Drown, his second place finish would expand his lead in the two track series going into next week ends finale’s. Duncan took third for good on lap 15 as Malcuit held on to fourth as Ryan Markham slipped past Mitch Caskey with four circuits to go to claim fifth. Heat winners were Drown and Malcuit and Drown won the Kar Connection Hard Charger award as he started 8th and finished second.

Don Rutt would set the pace for the opening two laps after a caution on the start of the feature took out Luke Sprouse and points leader Doug Drown in turn one right after the green flag waved of the McKenzie Concrete Super Stock main event. John Wilson would take over on lap three as Rutt and Gary Hensel Jr. would flip flop second place on laps seven and eight. Rutt’s car would come to a stop on the next lap, ending his hopes for a win. The last six circuits would be side by side action for the lead as Wilson would run the middle to high grooves all the way around while Hensel Jr. would stick to the low side of the racing surface as Wilson used his momentum coming out of the corners to keep the lead. On the last lap, Hensel Jr. would be able to stay alongside Wilson as they came out of turn two and as the pair came out of turn four with the checkered flag waving, Hensel Jr. out dragged Wilson to the line and win by a half a car length. For the Apple Creek driver, it would be his second win of the season aboard the D J Services, Lochvale Farms and Lorentz Landscaping #28h and for Wilson, it would be his fifth second place finish of the season. Brandon Craver would finish third and pocket the Lil Badger Tools Hard Charger of the race from his eight starting position. Nick Humphrey would finish a season best fourth as Justin Lorentz captured fifth. Hensel Jr. and Wilson topped the heats and with his win, Hensel Jr. takes the lead in the Stake’s Shortstop ‘Summer Series’ points.

After three rain outs, the Modifieds finally were able to get a race in at ‘Orrville’s Historic Oval’ and a couple of regular Late Model drivers sat in the two Larry Reed owned machines and would put on a great race. Wooster’s Doug Drown would take the outside pole position with J R Gentry in his tire tracks and then they would go side by side with Drown in the low groove and Gentry on the high side with Gentry being scored the leader from lap six to 12 when Drown regained control of the lead. Right behind them was Daniel Sanchez just waiting to pounce on the leaders. With the white flag ready to wave, Gentry clipped the wall in turn four and allowing Sanchez to edge by for second as Drown received some breathing room and then take the Ports Petroleum, Rich’s Tire and Service black #r88 to the Summit Racing victory lane. Mark Smith would finish fourth as Josh Morrow came from his 15th starting grid position to fill out the top five and take the Lil Badger Tools Hard Charger award. It was a good night for triple digit numbered cars in the heat races as Sanchez (#463) and Ron Miller (185) were the winners.

Justin Cranmore would lead the way on the opening lap of the JOYRIDE Transport feature but mechanical issues would short circuit his night on the next lap giving the lead to Canton’s Cory Staley. Staley would lead the rest of the way but would have Brad Hensel breathing down his tail pipes all the way to the finish. Meanwhile right behind them, Doug Hensel and Wes Staley were door handle to door handle for third. Side by side lapped traffic in front of the leaders as the checkered flag was up in the air had Cory Staley and Brad Hensel in a tussle to find the quickest way to get to the line with Cory Staley and his Rumpke Sanitation, Paul Davis Construction and NewFast Motorsports #23s getting across the finish line by a half a car length. With his second place finish, Brad Hensel keeps the lead in the NewFast Motorsports ‘Summer Series’ points. Doug Hensel grabbed third with Wes Staley in fourth in front of Wyatt Zimmerman. Cody Newbury started 16th and finish ninth to collect the Lil Badger Tools Hard Charger award. Cory and Wes Staley along with Doug Hensel secured the heat wins.

Dublin’s Carl Robinson swept the VARC races winning both the heat and feature. Jim McDermott and John Lawhorn was second and third followed by Larry Smith and Mike McWilliams.

Next Saturday night, July 27, the Buckeye Dirt Late Model Speedweek will headline the action for the Hans and Don Gross Memorial with $3,000 going to the winner and it will also be the final race for the Attica Raceway Park/ Wayne County Speedway Late Model Series. The Pine Tree Towing and Recovery Sprints, the McKenzie Concrete Super Stocks and the JOYRIDE Transport Mini Stocks will also be on the racing card. Gates will open at 4 pm with first race at 7 pm.
