It was another full night of action at NAPA Jani Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway as it was back to the 80’s night with trivia questions for the fans and bike races for the kids and some close racing action on the track. Corey Conley would take the lead on laps 7 and drive to his second win of the season while Nathon Loney would go flag to flag for his 1st win and Mike Rose and Dale Beckett would win close races.

Matt Irey would jump into the lead position from the pole and set the early pace of the Kar Connection Super Late Model main with Wellsburg W. Va’s Corey Conley pulling into second from his 4th starting grid spot. After a lap 6 caution, Conley would stay with Irey down the backstretch and would out power Irey in turn three and four and take the lead for good. Behind the two front runners was a three way battle for third between Dave Hornikel, Brad Malcuit and points leader Ryan Markham. Those three would change positions in the early part of the race as Hornikel would secure third place on lap 12 with Markham taking 4th from Malcuit. The last caution would wave on lap 14 to bunch the field up but as the green flag waved again, Conley and his H & K Equipment, Premier Granite and Matheson Gas #14 would pull away to gain his second win as Irey would secure second followed by Hornikel. Markham would increase his points lead over Malcuit as the two 5 time track champions would finish 4th and 5th. Charlie Duncan would start 14th and finish sixth to claim the Accu-Force hard charger award. Heat winners were Malcuit, Hornikel and Conley as D J Miller topped the last chance race.

Gary Hensel Jr. took advantage of his pole position starting spot to lead the opening two laps of the CorBon Super Stock feature when Dustin Daugherty took over. Trying to get the lead back, Hensel Jr. would spin in turn 4 on lap 4 to bring out the caution and he would retire to the pits. On the next circuit under green, Bob Daugherty would spin and collect James Stanley and Daugherty would go pitside for some repairs as Stanley was finished. Dustin Daugherty would lead the field back to green but he would spin in turn two on lap six giving the lead to Mike Rose. For the next few laps, Rose would be hounded by Jordan James, Brandon Craver and points leader Paul Holmes who started 18th after not running his heat race. Holmes’ night would come to a hard ending as he smacked the guardrail in turn three to end his race. As the last six laps went green, Bob Daugherty had worked his way back toward the front of the field as Rose was staving off James for the lead. With two to go, James abruptly pulled of the track as Daugherty took second from Craver and closed in on Rose. The Millersburg driver would hold on and claim his 1st Super Stock win aboard the Rose Racing #71r. Daugherty would claim second while Craver took third from his 17th starting spot. T A Perrine would recover from an early spin to take 4th as Todd Sherwin finished a season best 5th.  Rose, Hensel Jr. and Bob Daugherty scored the heat wins.

The Modifieds made their second visit to ‘Orrville’s Historic Oval’ and it was all Danville’s Nathan Loney as he would start on the pole and lead all 20 laps of the feature aboard the Tru Form Racing Products, Rich’s Body Shop and GDN Welding #10. Some scattered cautions throughout the race would give D J Cline and Jimmy Smith some hope of stealing the top spot away from Loney, who would drive away on the restarts. Cline and Smith would duel it out for second as Smith would get by Cline on lap 18 for second but Cline came right back on the next circuit to lock up second as Smith settled for third. Rob Melzer ran a consistent fourth while Allan Baker rounded out the top five. Loney, Cline and Baker notched the heat wins.

As usual, the WQKT 104.5 Mini Stocks feature was another barn burner as the top five cars were all bunched together all race long and the finish would be decided at the finish line. Brad Hensel blasted from his 6th starting position and in a 1/2 lap had the lead with pole sitter Dale Beckett right with him as behind them, it was five wide action. With the field stretching out, the Staley’s, Wes and Cory along with points leader Doug Hensel and Jordan James stayed bunched together changing position lap after lap behind the two front runners. A mid race and only caution came out for Jolene Voshel, who is fighting to get in  the top 10 in points, lost the right rear wheel, would tighten the field even closer. Beckett of Millersburg, in his first race since opening night, would out hustle Brad Hensel for the lead on the restart. Brad Hensel would try every way to get the lead back and as they crossed the finish line, Beckett and his Holmes Tire, Henthorn Golf Cart Sales and Short Track Rescue would win by a foot over Brad Hensel who had a half a car advantage over Doug Hensel with Wes Staley and Cory Staley right behind in fourth and fifth. Winning the heats were Wes Staley, Doug and Brad Hensel and Cody Newbury. Cliff Staley would win the last chance race and then finish 9th from his 17th starting position to pick up the Lester Racing Hard Charger Award.

Three age groups of kids raced for the Bike races that were sponsored by Rick Susong and Fisher Performance as each winner received $30 and Larry Evans Landscaping and Snow Removal adding to the prize list.

A big night of racing is on tap for next Saturday, August 18th as the Pine Tree Towing & Recovery Sprints return with the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association while the Kar Connection Super Late Models will have their season championship and double points on the line. The CorBob Super Stocks and the WQKT 104.5 Mini Stocks will run for regular points and the third race for the ‘Summer Series’ points.
