ZEHR NIPS LINDSLEY IN NORWAY SPEEDWAY LATE MODEL PHOTO FINISH

(.007 seconds separate the two in a win by inches at the checkers)

(Norway, MI) Aug 3 – Vulcan’s Dan Lindsley appeared to have the 50 lap Werner Electric late model feature in the bag at Norway Speedway Friday night.

A slight bobble, however with two laps to go opened the door for Menominee’s Dalton Zehr, who ducked underneath the fellow former track champion and went on to score a photo finish win which had to be determined by transponder scoring.

For a while it looked as if Robby Iverson was going to collect the checkers. The third-generation driver took the lead at the drop of the green and quickly put some distance between himself and the rest of the pack. Lindsley broke through the pack into second, and slowly began tracking down Iverson and the Escanaba driver began sifting through lapped cars.

Meanwhile Zehr, who started 11th, patiently began picking off cars every three or four laps, Zehr worked his way up to 2nd when he spun with 12 laps to go.

Track officials determined it was contact with a lapped car that caused Zehr to spin, so Zehr got his spot back.

On the restart Lindsley charged past Iverson for the lead and kept the lead until a caution with four to go tightened the field once again.

When green flag racing resumed Lindsley appeared headed for his second straight feature win. He bobbled ever so slightly coming out of turn four to complete lap 48. The bobble allowed Zehr to push up alongside of Lindsley. Lindsley recovered, charging back hard on the outside line. As the checkers flew the pair were door-to-door, with transponder scoring determing Zehr won by .007 seconds at the line. Lindsley hung on for second, followed by Dillion Kralovetz, Iverson and and Brian Stanchina rounded out the top five finishers.

The victory was Zehr’s third in four appearances at Norway in ’18.

The Coca Cola late models weren’t the only class to have a photo finish as point leader Brad Barglind of Kingsford nipped second place points racer Tanner Fickel of Neenah, Wisconsin at the line for his third feature win of the year. The margin of victory was .009 seconds at the checkers.

Kingsford’s Dave Knudson won his first feature of 2018 in the 141 Auto Sportsman division. Norway’s Jordan Massicotte netted her best finish of the year in second, followed by Pembine, Wisconsin’s Bob Schiefelbein, Marion, Wisconsin’s B.J. Schoeneck and points leader Joe Ostermann of Norway.

Upper Pine Creek’s Ryan Wender won a time-shortened, caution plagued Auto Value Super Stock feature while Vulcan’s Adam Faull captured his third feature flag of the year in the stock fours, extending his points lead in the process.

Next Friday night August 10 will be the Thirsty Whale Bar & Grill Fan Appreciation night. Spectator eliminator racing will also take place.

Racing gets underway at 7 p.m.
