ST. HELENA, Calif. (July 23, 2018) – Rico Abreu’s visit to the “Sprint Car Capital of the World” was short-lived, but beneficial, taking advantage of the opportunity to time trial around the world-famous half-mile. Abreu, driver of the Abreu Vineyards/Alpinestars/Rhino Wipe/Lucas Oil/Priority Aviation/No. 24 sprint car, joined the field at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday night with the intent to test and tune for multiple Knoxville Raceway appearances in the near-future.

Unfortunately for Abreu, the test and tune session was cut off during heat race competition. An issue within the car’s rear end caused motor problems, ultimately forcing the St. Helena, Calif., native to scratch from the rest of the evening program. Abreu was leading his respective heat race when the rear end trouble occurred.

“Not how we wanted our first Knoxville start to go, but at least we were able to show speed during time trials, as well as our heat race,” Rico Abreu said, who timed 18th-fastest out of 33 entrants at Knoxville Raceway. “All we can do now is keep those notes handy and revert back to them when we return to Knoxville Raceway next weekend.”

Rico Abreu will continue his 2018 campaign with a four-pack of All Star Circuit of Champions events in the Midwest, ready to follow the Tony Stewart-owned organization to four different tracks throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa. The All Star Circuit of Champions four-race weekend will ignite on Thursday, July 26, with a visit to Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis., followed by an appearance at Jackson (Minn.) Motorplex on Friday, July 27.

The weekend will conclude with an Iowa doubleheader, first visiting Knoxville Raceway on Saturday, July 28, all capped-off with a trip to 34 Raceway on Sunday, July 29.

Abreu will enter the weekend with six All Star top-ten finishes to his credit, two of which inside the top-five. In total, the former Chili Bowl Nationals champion owns 18 top-ten finishes in 2018, still hunting for his first trip to victory lane.
