Despite the heat, 128 cars made their way to Crystal Motor Speedway Saturday night, including the Sprints on Dirt.

The SOD race was a burner that saw Shawn Valenti of Fostoria Ohio move up from his eighth place starting position to take the event over Onsted’s Boston Mead and Steven Irwin of Fenton. Brad Lamberson of Parma, Chad Blonde, Litchfield, and Robert Huisken from Marne won heats.

Carl Ries of Blanchard picked up his first win of 2018 in the Kentucky Fried Chicken Late Model feature, followed by Jimmy Gallagher of St. Johns and Logan Arntz from Vestaburg. Ionia’s Scott Baker advanced to the feature by winning the B Main, with Gallagher, Zack Olger of St. Johns, and Arntz grabbing heat wins.

The Lane Automotive IMCA Modified event was all Sheridan’s Milt Montgomery, who took advantage of his outside pole position to take the win over Brenten DeYoung of Crystal, and Dan Wiggins of Fenwick. Wiggins and DeYoung won heats.

Last weeks feature winner was this weeks winner as Mickey Currier of Sidney moved up from his twelfth place starting position to win the Next Level Graphics & Design LLC Street Stocks event. Tim DeGroft Jr. of Carson City pulled in second, followed by Robert White of Fenwick. Riverdale’s Dustin Weber picked up the B Main win, with heats falling to George Wease from Hubbardston, Don Rohn, Sheridan, and White.

Chris Malek of Alma held off Rob Brillhart of Crystal to win the Port City Racing Pro Stock event. Ryan Teeter from Crystal scored the third-place finish. Malek also picked up the heat win.

The Engine Pro Pro Truck event belonged to Tim Sooy from the opening green flag as he held off Paul Grosnickle of Lansing and Kent City’s Jim Beltz for the win. Sooy set the tone early, picking up the heat event earlier in the evening.

Zayden Buskirk of Crystal won the 6 to 9-year-old feature of the Greenville Daily News Mini Wedge beginner’s division, with Eli Fellows of Crystal and Mason VanderVeen of Six Lakes rounding out the top three. Buskirk and VanderVeen picked up heat wins.

In the ten to fourteen-year-old event, Andrew Bogart of Howard City added another win to his young career stats with Brent Wonch of Stanton and Bryant VanderMark of Greenville rounding out the top three. Bogart also picked up the heat win.

Next Saturday night at Crystal Motor Speedway will be a regular night of all seven divisions plus a steeple race event. Gates open at 4:30 PM with racing at 7:30 PM.
