RAIN HITS DURING HEAT RACE ACTION SATURDAY AT SHARON FORCING THE 3RD STRAIGHT RAIN OUT

by Mike Leone

Hartford, OH May 26, 2018 After losing all of the events scheduled in April, the month of May started out promising with a successful All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car event; however, that would be the only racing completed to date this season as rain hit on Saturday night during heat race action forcing the third consecutive rain out. Sharon has now been rained out for five of the six race nights scheduled and seven of the eight events scheduled including the two open practices the first two Saturdays of April. Grandstand rain checks from Saturday night will be honored for the next two Menards “Super Series” events, while pit passes will be good for the remainder of the season for any $30 pit pass event.

A strong field of cars had gathered for the Menards “Super Series” event including 31 Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Big-Block Modifieds for the Mod Tour along with 33 Gibson Insurance Agency Stock Cars, 27 HTMA/Precise Racing Products RUSH Sportsman Modifieds, and 18 Summit Racing Equipment Econo Mods.

Some very light rain hit at the conclusion of warm-ups before ending as Rusty Wheeler, Bobby Whitling, Jason Fosnaught, and Chris Schneider opened the night winning the four Stock Car heats. Rex King, Jr., Jim Weller, Jr., and Jimmy Holden won The Mod Tour heats before light rain hit the track again. After the rain ended, Rex King was victorious in the fourth Mod Tour heat race. The first of three RUSH Sportsman Modified heats were on the track when the rain arrived again. At 8:50 p.m., the rain intensified and with more to come the remainder of the show had to be cancelled.

Coming up next will be a Sprint Car doubleheader in a Menards “Super Series” event this Saturday night (June 2). The “410” Sprint Cars return for a $3,000 to-win show and will be joined by the first of two appearances by the new non-wing RUSH Sprint Cars. The RUSH Sportsman Modifieds will try and complete their first race of the season, while the Econo Mods will round out the program on Diamond Steel Night.
