4-27-18 TheDRC DEFROST 30 Starts Season at MRP!!
The first event of the 2018 race season at Moler Raceway Park would see 16 late models vying for the 1,500 to win prize. In heat race action it was defending champion Kody Evans holding off Robby Hensley and Freddie Carpenter to take the win while heat #2 would see Josh Rice hold off challenges from Blake Naylor and then Steve Casebolt to take the checkered flag. In the feature event it was Verona, Ky’s Rice to the lead early with Evans in close pursuit. Following a caution on lap 18 Casebolt would make the pass on Evans to take over 2nd spot but another caution would wave on lap 20 as Freddie Carpenter would go up in smoke and stop on the track. Back under green Casebolt would stalk Rice out front and would make his move with 5 laps remaining to get past Rice and take over the top spot. The driver from Richmond, Indiana would go on to take the checkered flag in his Sudz Car Wash, VP Race Fuels, Gotta Race sponsored Mastersbilt machine. Rice would come home in second spot with Evans, Jeff Alsip, and Roger Ruark completing the top five running order.
In the Modified division it was Batavia, Ohio’s Adam Stricker claiming the heat race and feature event win in his new ProPower Engine, Elite Chassis, Stricker Auto Parts sponsored machine. Jimmy Lennex Jr. would come home in second position followed by Larry Pickelheimer Jr., Mike Gemmer, and Boog Verdin.
In the Sportmods it was Maysville,KY driver Jeremie Bretz winning heat #1 over Dan Hurt, while defending Track Champion Dallas Pickelheimer would claim the victory in heat #2 over Matt Watson. In the feature event it was Bretz jumping to the early lead over Hurt. The red flag would wave on lap 7 as Kyle Tarvin would take a nasty rollover in turn #1. He was able to climb out of the vehicle and walk away with no injuries. On the restart it was all Bretz as he would park his Doug’s Glass & Glazing, Palmer Equipment, Rips Farm Supply sponsored machine in victory lane. Hurt would come home in second spot with Watson, Pickelheimer, and Tom Pribble rounding out the top five positions.
The Crazy Compact division would see 16 cars sign in on the evening with Burlington, Ky driver Justin Dalton taking heat race #1 over Devin Puckett. Heat #2 would see Nick Barrett of Kettering, Ohio take the win over his brother Ryan Barrett of Spring Valley, Ohio. In the feature Dalton would get the jump on Barrett and take the lead while Brandon Stephens would quickly charge from his fifth starting spot to second by lap #2. Stephens put pressure on Dalton the entire race but Justin Dalton was not going to be denied his first win of the 2018 race season in a car he built for owner Darren Keller. Stephens would come home in second with Devin Puckett charging to 3rd position over Nick Barrett and Clyde Pack.
