Series Also Adds Fox River Racing Club Late Models as Support Class

PORTAGE, Wis. (April 24, 2018) – The TUNDRA Super Late Model Series Powered by Wisconsin Potatoes will be welcoming a new division at select events this season. Weekly Late Models (on an eight-inch tire) will be offered a three-race set through the series in 2018.

Late Models will compete in a Triple Crown format with events in conjunction with TUNDRA on May 12 at Wisconsin International Raceway and July 7 at State Park Speedway. The third round will be a stand-alone event as part of the Marshfield Motor Speedway Fall Shootout on September 29.

The idea was generated when TUNDRA looked to bring in the WIR/Fox River Racing Club (FRRC) Late Models for Kroll’s West Round One. After discussing possibilities with some drivers, the interest level for more races was apparent.

“We had a couple of holes to fill in our schedule this year and decided that this was an excellent class to bring in for the fans,” said series representative Matt Panure. “There are plenty of Late Models around the area, and the FRRC rule book is fairly accommodating.”

Much like the Super Late Model and Sportsman divisions, the Late Models will be offered ways to curb costs through the three-race set. A season registration will allow teams two free pit passes at each race and the ability to buy race tires at cost.

The payout is somewhat similar to that of the Red, White and Blue series of 2017.

“Benefits in TUNDRA usually favor the drivers who are able to make the commitment and that’s what we’re hoping will happen here,” Panure said. “The buy-in is fairly small at just $100 and we hope to benefit the drivers by saving them on their tire bill through the three races. We also need to thank Wayne Brevik at Marshfield for helping us move forward with this plan.”

TUNDRA is seeking partnerships to make additions to the payoff and create a point fund. “Ideally, we’ll have something for an overall Champion, Second, and Third at the very least,” Panure said.

The Late Model Triple Crown will follow the Fox River Racing Club rule book, which allows drivers who fall under the Big 8 Series and other tracks’ umbrellas to participate. To keep in line with most rule books in the area, the class will compete on the Hoosier D800. Four new tires will be permitted at the first race and up to two new tires will be permitted at the remaining two.

Registration and payoff information are available on the registration page of the TUNDRA web site.

The TUNDRA Super Late Model Series season begins Saturday, May 12 at Wisconsin Internaional Raceway with Kroll’s West Round One. This event will also feature the first of the Triple Crown for the Late Models and will be the first of five events for the TUNDRA Sportsman. Fan gates open at 4 p.m., qualifying is at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m. Adult admission (ages 13+) is just $12. Children 12 and under receive free admission.
