DIRT SPORTMODS TO COMPETE THREE NIGHTS AT

WIR’S “PAVEMENT POUNDER” TRIPLE CROWN IN 2018

(Cash point fund & contingencies to be doled out to sportmods participants)

(Kaukauna, WI)  – Back by popular demand three times in 2018 – the dirt sportmods at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna.

The “Pavement Pounder” Triple Crown series will host three events featuring the local dirt sportmods, with a point fund being doled out to participants who support the three race deal. The “Pavement Pounder” series events will be run on Thursday nights June 14, July 19 and August 16.

Last season 17 different local dirt track, sportmod drivers took their dirt machines to WIR’s quarter-mile oval in August in the first annual “Pavement Pounder” event. Waupun’s Jeff Steenbergen emerged triumphant in the fenderless division.

“That event drew a ton of new, local dirt fans to WIR so we’ve decided to expand this into a three race series,” said Fox River Racing Club (FRRC) president Tom Gee. “That night was one of our best nights in terms of attendance all year and the drivers we talked to had a blast and plan on returning. And the drivers will be running for more money than last year not only on all three nights but they’ll battle for point fund money as well.”

The rules for the “Pavement Pounder” series in 2018 will be the same as 2017 with cars having to match their local dirt track rules right down the “T”, including the tires. “That really keeps it affordable for the teams and with our shows being on Thursday nights it allows drivers to venture out and try something different to break up the summer grind,” Gee added.

Further details for the “Pavement Pounder,” including the three race payoff, format and point fund and contingencies will be announced in the near future. You can email FRRC public relations director Joe Verdegan at jverdegan2@gmail.com for advertising opportunities or questions regarding the “Pavement Pounder” for 2018.

The season opening “Thursday night Thunder” race at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna will take place Thursday, May 24 at 6:45 p.m.

Tuesday night oval practices are slated to begin on May 1 with Saturday, May 5 serving as the annual FRRC practice and inspection day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Spectator admission is free that day.
