PRP Press Release

Over 90 race teams were in attendance Saturday evening as Portsmouth Raceway Park hosted Fan Appreciation Night presented by Masterworks Jewelry Studio.

Jackie Boggs, Adam Jordan, Joe Brewer, and Derek Richmond all picked up feature wins in their respective divisions.  For Boggs, Jordan, and Brewer Saturday night brought them their first PRP wins of the 2017 season.

PRP fans were treated to a $5-dollar general admission ticket price, plenty of door prizes, and some really competitive racing, especially in the heat races and B-Mains.

Boggs was dominant all night ling in the Giovanni’s Pizza Late Models.  He led every lap of the dash and every lap of the A-Main.  The Impact Race Gear Quick Qualifier Brandon Fouts placed second with Josh Bocook, Rod Conley, and Robbie Lewis rounding out the top five.  Points leader Shannon Thornsberry, Kenny Christy, Ron Hinds, Jeff Arnold, and Charlie Jude made up the rest of the top 10.

South Webster’s Adam Jordan grabbed the checkers in the R.W. Rental and Supply Modified A-Main.  The former track champ got past current points leader Jeremy Rayburn on lap 10 and held on for the win.  Tony DeHart took second.  Ervin Vance was third with Rayburn fourth and 18-year-old Tyler Smith fifth.  Justin Jacobs, Jimmy Lennex, Eddie Harmon, Eric Berry, and Logan Burke rounded out the top 10.  Harmon won the B-Main and in the A-Main wound up climbing seven spots to earn the Markwest Ranger Pipeline Hard Charger Award.

Ben Adkins set fast time in The Dynamic Shock Service Modified Time Trials and finished second to Jeremy Rayburn in an extremely competitive heat.  Adkins, however, was a scratch for the feature.

Batavia’s Joe Brewer made his first visit of the season to PRP Saturday night and wound up being the man to beat in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Limited Late Model A-Main.  Brewer won by over a three-second margin.  Evyian Terry, Cameron Logan, Billy Staker, Matt Melvin, Ronnie Whitt, Brett Kennard, Randy Ross, Mike Meyers, and Kevin Terry rounded out the top 10.

Stout’s Derek Richmond claimed his fourth PRP win of the 2017 season in the M & M Inflatables Sport Mod Division, as he kept his No. 34 machine nice and smooth throughout the A-Main.  Brian Sammons, Jr. finished as the runner-up with Luke Jordan, Mitchel Fields, Jr., and Alan Gulley making up the rest of the top five.  The next five were Emily Jordan, Derek Spencer, Brennan Bobst, Brian Sammons, Sr., and Brandon Colley.

There were 18 total races Saturday night among the four divisions.  There was quite a bit of side-by-side racing and a lot of passing.  Of the 18 races, the pole sitter only won seven of them, and while the features were good, some of the best action was in the heats and B-Mains.

Benny Adkins came from dead last to win the Late Model B-Main and would move up six spots in the A-Main before experiencing mechanical issues.  In the Modifieds, Eddie Harmon moved up from fifth to win the B-Main.  In the Limited Late Model Heats, Joe Whitt came up from fifth to win one, while Evyian Terry charged up from fifth to win the other.

The Sport Mod Heats supplied some of the most exciting racing of the evening.  Eventual Sport Mod Feature winner Derek Richmond moved up from eighth to win the first heat.  Brian Sammons, Jr. and Emily Jordan had a great battle for the lead in the second Sport Mod Heat, while Brian Sammons, Sr. and Luke Jordan had an equally competitive race in the third Sport Mod Heat.  The Sammons wound up holding on to win both with the Jordans right on their rear bumpers.

This coming Saturday The Lucas Oil Late Model Series will return to Portsmouth Raceway Park for The Bob Miller Memorial presented by Pepsi.  The night will be highlighted by a 60-lap Late Model Feature paying $12,000 to win.  Also on the card will be Modifieds and Sport Mods.  For more details, log on to www.portsraceway.com.
