Danny Dietrich finishes eighth during Capitani Classic; Knoxville Nationals campaign begins Thursday

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

KNOXVILLE, IA (August 7, 2017) – Utilizing the event as a test session for later this week, “Double-D” Danny Dietrich kicked off his 2017 Knoxville (IA) Raceway visit with a top-ten finish during the annual Capitani Classic on August 6, crossing under the final checkers eighth, officially, in the running order, bettering most of the 69 entries on hand.

Piloting the Gary Kauffman Racing/Weikert’s Livestock/Sandoe’s Fruit Market/Pace Performance/Gsell’s Whitetails/Hickory Run Orchards/Carlisle Auto Salvage/CATS Used Truck Parts/Drop Of Ink Tattoo/Bowman Block & Head Repair/Sweeney Cars/Self Made/No. 29, Dietrich qualified for the Capitani Classic main event by finishing third during his respective heat race, launching his evening campaign with the fifth fastest time during his respective qualifying group.

“Not a bad way for us to start the week,” Dietrich explained. “We have a few things that we need to clean up, but I think we’ll be ready to go once Thursday gets here. I don’t think we have too much planned during the next few days. We’re definitely anxious to get this weekend going.”

With the Capitani Classic in the books, “Double-D” will now focus on the big prize; the 57th running of the 5-hour ENERGY Knoxville Nationals. The four-day campaign, the world’s premier sprint car event, will hand out a purse nearing $1,000,000 from August 9-12 including a $150,000 top prize during the Saturday night finale. Danny Dietrich will attempt to qualify for the “big dance” on Thursday evening, August 10. If accomplished, Dietrich’s Saturday night A-main start will be a second in three years, finishing 15th in 2015 after securing a starting spot through Friday night’s last chance program.
