Saturday night at Crystal Motor Speedway was the first of the Fourth of July holiday double header, all sponsored by Engine Pro. Over 150 racers filled the pits to compete for the Mid-Season Championships in all seven divisions.

 

The Kentucky Fried Chicken Late Models saw Tom Dusen rein in and finally pass a high flying Rachel Carpenter of Laingsburg. Carpenter had led most of the event, but the veteran racer from Muskegon tracked her down to take the win. Scott Baker of Ionia scored the third place finish, followed by Taylor Wiles of Hubbardston, Scot Church, Ithaca, Chris Rinard, Ithaca, Josh Knoll, Lake, Logan Love, Vestaburg, Megan Carpenter, Laingsburg, and David Hilliker of Midland. Baker and Garrett Wiles of Hubbardston advanced to the main feature by virtue of their B Main wins, while heats went to Taylor Wiles, Dusen, Brennan Bowen of Sheridan, and Josh Borton of Crystal.

 

AJ Ward of Ionia moved up from his eleventh place starting position to nudge out Crystal’s John DeYoung Jr. in the Lane Automotive IMCA Modified event. Casey Tasker, Fenwick, grabbed third position, followed by Brenten DeYoung, Crystal, Chad Wernette, Sheridan, Chad May, Rockford, Myron DeYoung, Stanton, Nick Stormzand, Lowell, Austin Wonch, Stanton, and Cory Ruesink of Lowell. Vern Buskirk of Stanton took the B Main while Ward, John DeYoung Jr, and Rusty Zeigler of Ovid gathered heat wins.

 

Ryan Alexander ran a strong race from the start as the Stanton resident moved up from his eighth place starting position to win a wild Street Stock event over a determined Jasen Wiley, of Fenwick. George Wease, Hubbardston, ran a close third, followed by Andrew Fidler, Elwell, Shane Spencer, Alma, Kevin Rohn, Stanton, Gabe Geselman, Muir, Mike Kresnak, Elwell, Tony Vinton, Lake, and Dustin Weber of Farwell. Gesselman and Kresnak garnered B Main wins with Christina Sherwood, Saranac, Brandon Cunningham, Sheridan, Wiley, and Vinton taking home heat wins.

 

Mike Currier of Fenwick outlasted furious charges from Draven Grosvenor, Crystal and Ronald Fuhrman of Belding to bring home the Races On The Web Flinn Stock win. Rusty Sowles, Howard City, took the fourth place spot, followed by Brad Hall, Carson City, Jarred Wonsey, Sumner, Jerry Powell, Lyons, Kyleah Baker, White Cloud, Allen Roszell, Sheridan, and Robert Goodall of Stanton. Fuhrman and Sowles claimed events.

Nate Jones of Alma assumed control of the Port City Racing Pro Stock event  about midway through the event and held off former division champion Josh Loomis of Weidman to claim the Mid-Season Championship crown. Chad Raby of Riverdale was a close third, followed by  Robert Brillhart, Crystal, Blake Hollenbeck, Greenville, Derek Schestag, Ashley, Ryan Teeter, Crystal, Jaramia Richards, Merrill, Matt Muha,  Greenville, and John Wills. Raby and Mike VanderMark Jr. scored heat wins.

 

Curtis Rice of Muskegon ran a near perfect race to hold off Aaron Raby of St. Louis to win the Engine Pro Pro Truckevent. Kenny Dittenber of Carson City claimed third, followed by Rob Putt, Fenwick, Chris Malek, Alma, Jim Beltz, Kent City, Darin Lund, Sheridan, Scott Lutterloh, Lakeview, Tim Sooy, Stanton, and Jason Omans of Ithaca. Malek and Matt Pickard picked up heat wins.

The track’s beginner class, the Mini-Wedge division sponsored by the Greenville Daily News for six to nine year-olds saw Zayden Buskirk of Crystal, take the win over Mikah Kurkowski, Sidney, Jazzlyn Hale, Crystal, Lilyann Montgomery, Crystal, Jaiden Monroe, Teegan Williams, Stanton, June Dora, Fenwick, and Eli Fellows of Crystal. Kurkowski took the preliminary heat event. In the ten to fourteen division, it was Andrew Bogart of Howard City taking the win over Thomas Parker, Brent Wonch, Stanton, Rylee Knoll, Lake, Zevon Nemetz, Crystal, and Riley Bowen of Sheridan. Wonch claimed the heat win.
