The Maximum Exposure Tour went two different directions on and off the track Saturday. Curt Spalding headed north to I-96 Speedway near Ionia, MI and tackled the big 1/2 mile dirt oval with the w1 UMP Modified.  The World of Outlaw Sprint Cars were in town, so a capacity crowd was at I-96.  Curt drew #2, started on the pole and won the second heat race.  Re-drew #1 so he started on the pole of the feature.  Led the first laps until a caution flew.  Didn't get the carb cleaned out good enough before the restart and quickly fell to third.  Leader dropped out with a flat tire and the w1 ended the night with a 2nd place finish. The w1 has one feature win, two seconds, and a the fourth place so far this season. At Kalamazoo, Jamison Russell returned with his #6 NASCAR Super Stock qualifying 9th among 18 cars.  In the heat race Jamison finished second but didn't like the car at all. The feature inversion placed him inside the second row but during a restart on the eight lap while in third place the car looped and spun out sending him to the back. Jamison pitted and complained the car is "un-drivable" and wants to spin out when applying the gas. The crew made some minor changes and Jamison finished the race in the back just getting lap time. The car is in the shop as the crew looks for a suspected binding problem in the suspension.

No races this week for the Maximum Exposure Tour as the NASCAR Super Stocks are off and Curt has nothing on the dirt side scheduled for the weekend. We are getting the #40 Superlate back together for some summer stops on the area Outlaw tour. We also make our 23rd annual pilgrimage to Indy this weekend for the 500 and and hopefully a few USAC races in the area. History will be made as four female starters have made the race. Helio starts on the pole trying for his fourth Indy 500 win. Big news out of Indy last week is the 2011 Indy 500 could be moved back to it's old starting time of 11am and $20 million dollars are on the table for anyone who can win the race and also win NASCAR's 600 mile event the same day in Charlotte, North Carolina. Jeff Gordon stated on Speed TV's Wind Tunnel show that Juan Montoya would be the favorite. Gordon has thousands of fans who want him to run the Indy 500 but he has declined to do the "double" to date. Robby Gordon, John Andretti, and Tony Stewart are the only drivers to attempt it so far. Indy moved the race to 1pm recently which has made it impossible to schedule drivers for both races recently.

Memorial Day Weekend Racing in the Kalamazoo area

Springport Speedway invites all Kalamazoo Super Stocks to race this Saturday night. The Venon Stock Car Series is open to all non-Outlaw body cars. Kalamazoo Speedway features a big Modified race and Berlin Raceway brings back the Superlates along with bus races! Spartan also has a 50 lap Modified feature planned. Hartford brings in the IRA Sprint Cars this Friday night.
