Tony Talks about Mottville 10-24-11

This past weekend was a 2 day event at the Mottville Speedway and MWR and MSZ both went out to catch the action. Scott Feaster was on hand with his camera filming the racing and pit side action. Nikki Rolston MWRs photo gal was also on hand taking pictures which we will have up later this week. As for me I was asked to work the show so I was doing line ups and tech for the late models. The pits saw nearly 50 cars with 14 outlaw late models. The racing action for the late models saw two heat events, a dash for cash, and a feature.

Brandon Maynard won the fast heat and Kenny Lollar won the other heat. The top 3 from each heat went on to the dash for cash and Jay Howard the rookie won this event. The 30 lap feature was very interesting and I am pleased to say we never needed the yellow flag. These guys went three wide and traded paint every lap but it was all good clean hard racing. Josh Sommers who had struggled all day with rear end issues had a 1/4 of track lead but Rich Boal made his way from mid pack to take the lead and hold on for the win. Ty Hayes gave him a run for his money but didn't have enough time to get the lead. Brandon Maynard started dead last and made it 3rd. This race saw over 200 people in the grand stands and everyone is still talking about it!

All week long you had people who did not ever plan on coming putting the track down and complaining about pay off and all sorts of things. Bottom line they wanted to hurt the show and may have talked some drivers into staying home. Well folks pay off was really good I am sure Rich is not complaining as he left with $790 of CASH. All the drivers seemed to be ok with what they got and the fans were treated to some great racing. Its always nice to prove people wrong. I have not always seen eye to eye with Merle but he does his thing and this weekend earned the respect of many!

Rodney Spencer seems to love Mottville as he won the Street Stock main event. 12 of the street stocks on hand and let me tell you Corey Woods WOW !!! Older car and still got the job done bringing home 3rd. Very Impressive run.

Eric Frazier picked up the Mini Stock main event and Dave Logan the FWD event as well as the pure stock event.

Sunday the track had 22 cars on hand and it was the IMCC for the 26th year. All 4 main events went to Indiana Drivers. Al Maurer won the street stock race over Rodney Spencer. Early on in the event Rodney and Steven Woods who were running 1 and 2 got together and forced them both to the tail. Spencer had a lot of damage to the front of his car. Best part of my weekend was working on his car pushing the hood and fender into place and then watching Spencer get the duck tape out from under his seat so I could tape up the car. Did I mention this was all done on the track as I was the turn 3 flagman? Was neat to help Spencer and I am proud I did a good job. Al on the other hand is a nut job!!! Last week he had 3 stints put in his heart and then goes off to win the main event. Just crazy but you have to love his passion for racing. Jacob Maynard came home in the top 5 again and that young man has talent for sure. Eric Fraizer barely picked up the win over Josh Dunnuck as early on he and Dunnuck got together and forced Frazier to pit. Todd Roberts won the fwd race and Dave Logan the pure stock event.

All in all it was a good weekend of racing and I say kudos to Merle for pulling it off. Love or hate the man he did what most thought would never happen and brought back late models to Mottville for the first time in 14 years. look for more shows of this nature next year I am sure.

Well folks South Bend has an enduro and demo and trailer races this weekend and Mottville does its final double header of the year. So get out take in some racing it may the last chance for 2011. Well Kzoo has talked about a turkey trot enduro so ya never know!

Votes are still pouring in for the MSZ Fan Choice Awards and that banquet will be right after the first of the year. We will give away plaques and trophies to the winners and a ton of door prizes and give a ways also. So if you have not voted you need to do so as we will end the votes on Dec 1!!! This will be a neat deal as we have some really tight battles in almost every group.

Well race fans Jerry Cannon always said...... Until Next time we will see you at the races !
