This week I attended M-40 speedway for Their opening night and wasn't disappointed.Plenty of racing action with a few extra things thrown in.

It was a chilly night at M-40 Speedway for the opening night.The cars were fast and the crowd was eager for some good racing.There was 5 classes of cars on hand.The bad fast Late Models ,Pro Stocks,Pure Stocks,G.L.S. Super Cup cars,and the visiting open wheeled V.R.O.A. cars.
Qualifing was done for the first 4 classes through the hot lap sessions.The V.R.O.A. car qualified on single lap times.With fast Lou Caposey taking the fast time of the night with a 14.318.then it was time to start the nights racing.There were 54 cars on hand.
First up G.L.S.Super cup car with the first heat going to Todd Wilfong.Heat # 2 went to Tim Phillips.Next up were the V.R.O.A.with the first of their heats going to Max Wirebaugh,2 nd heat winner was Terry Byrne
.Pure Stocks saw fast qualifier Josh Colburn and Todd Taylor winning the heats.
In Pro Stocks it was Fast Fred Reed and Ron Maynard Jr winning there heats.
The FAST Late Models were next to finish up the heats.Jeff Ganus won the first one and Robbie Ferrier won the second one
The Feature races were set.Late Model ,Pro Stocks and Pure Stocks were set buy the winners of heat # 1 had the pole with the rest of that race down the line and the winner of heat # 2 outside with the rest of the heat behind him.The V.R.O.A. and the G.L.S. super cups set there own line ups.
The G.L.S Super cup car took the track for the first Feature.The fans saw the #99 car of Morgan Baird get the early led and hold on to win over Tim Phillips in second and Butch Taylor in third,Darren Bohne in fourth.
V.R.O.A.open wheel cars up next ,which was a very exciting race with the fast qualifier winning after taking the lead on lap 13.There was several leaders during this race including Bob Teadt,and heat winner Terry Byrne.Fast Lou Caposey was the winner with Terry Byrne on his heals,the pink car of Samantha Jansen from Canada had a fast ride finished in third with Bob Martin in 4th,and in fifth was Jim Lawson.
Pure Stocks had Josh Colburn and Todd Taylor to start up front but before the race would start Todd Taylor pulled off so that moved Robbie Ferrier up to the point outside front row.Which make for some very exciting racing up front between the 2.They fought most of the race until Ferrier finally got the lead away from Colburn.Robbie.Ferrier never looked back.Todd Taylor did return to the track on lap 4 he was fine and raced very fast.Robbie Ferrier took the win with Colburn,Tim Thurston,Justin Holden.following in 2nd,3rd,and 4th.
Pro Stocks saw Ron Maynard Jr out to the early lead and take the win with Nick Pressler, Ryan Powell ( in his best finish 3rd)Jerry Zackary,and Fred Reed in fifth.Ron Marnard Jr had the car to beat it was fast he led most of the race and never really had to worry about the win.
The Late Models were up next, We watched a very competitive

race with Jeff Ganus and Robbie Ferrier racing for the lead.They fought for quite a few laps before Ganus would take the lead but Ferrier was at his bumper the whole time.The fight for 3rd thru 5th was a heated battle ending up with a big wreck to end the night.The third place car of Jeff Holden ended up with the drivers side down on the track and the passengers side pointing at the stars.Jeff Holden rode the wall on the back straight like that, before he came to rest in turn 3.Jeff Holden was not injured and jumped out just shaken.The others that were involved were able to drive off the track..The race was called after this wreck due to the time it would take to clean it up. The official finish according to the track were as follows Jeff Ganus wins with Robbie Ferrier in 2nd ,Jeff Holden in 3rd,John Long in 4th and Cory Pressler in 5th.This was a the finish to another great opening night at a beautiful 3/8s mile track.Join me next week and get out and go to a short track near you...Scott Rozner
