Persistent wind-driven rain showers delayed the start of the Michigan Dirt Cup Modified finale at Oakshade Raceway on Saturday night, but those who braved the less than ideal racing conditions were treated to a great 35-lap Modified feature event.

Ionia, Michigan’s Travis Stemler had a great battle with Collin Thirlby at the front of the Michigan Dirt Cup feature as the two drivers traded the lead on multiple occasions. Thirlby led much of the race with Stemler pressuring. Stemler took the lead for the final time at the white flag and picked up his first Michigan Dirt Cup Modified feature win of the year. Thirlby settled for a second place finish. David Mielke finished third and wrapped up the 2015 Michigan Dirt Cup Championship. Aaron Morey and Shawn Valenti were the rest of the top five finishers.

A huge pile up at the start of the UMP Sportsman feature brought out the red flag when at least five cars ended up in a wad with one getting airborne. Once the mess was cleaned up, Mike Jessen from Berkey, Ohio, led most of the race after starting on the pole. Graeme Short was able to get within striking distance of Jessen and took the lead away on lap six, but Jessen regrouped and took the lead back one lap later. Jessen held on to win his third feature of the year. Short ended up second with points championship contenders, Jamie Grochowski and Mathew Chapman, finishing third and fourth respectively. Scot Mills was fifth.

Swanton, Ohio’s Gregg DeTray earned his seventh Bomber A Main win of the season in his bid for the 2015 Bomber Championship. Defending track champion Jeff Foks kept his slim championship hopes alive with a second place finish. Curt Lancaster finished third and Chris Sands’ fourth place finish was enough to retake the point lead. Chris Henry wound up fifth.

Next week’s season championship will be an exciting one in the Bombers. A Champion will be determined after a season long tight points race on Saturday, September 19. Sands has a single point advantage over Adam Noonan and Gregg DeTray who are both tied for second. Skeet Reckner is still in the hunt 24 points back in fourth and Foks still has an outside shot, 64 points behind in fifth.

After starting mid-pack in the Sport Compact feature event, Richard Riffe out of Toledo, Ohio, worked his way up to the front to pick up his second consecutive Sport Compact feature win and his seventh of the season. Jason Deshler started on the pole and managed a second place finish followed by Jeff Goodman, Nathan Goodman and Cody Stetten.

Multiple crashes slowed the start of the Bomber B Main, but once things got going, Satch Crispen shot out to a big lead. Crispen led the entire distance to pick up the victory. Dylan Hough made a late race pass on Donvan Paskan to finish second. Jarrett Rendel finished fourth with Matt Koerner fifth.

A sparse field rolled on to the raceway for the Bomber C Main which had a lot of cars not making the start. Jake Rendel from Adrian, Michigan, dominated the race and picked up the victory over Jeff Strock, Robert Meinen, Adam Garland and Chris Yockman who were the only cars still running at the end of the race.

Some exciting point championships will be decided this coming Saturday, September 19. Find out if UMP Sportsman rookie driver Mathew Chapman can maintain his 3 point lead over rival Jamie Grochowski and the Bomber championship is up for grabs among five different drivers. Topless UMP Late Models will also be in action. Gates open at 4pm and the racing begins at 7pm.
