Poll: M40 Mini Stock Bounty
Will Michael Mast be beat this Friday at M40 Speedway?PROMOTERS POINT-NOVEMBER 9!
We simply could not have had a better day for our season championship races then we had last Saturday!
Temperatures in the upper 50's, sunny!
A great turnout of cars for November 5 and a decent sized crowd!
Once again some great racing!
What a way to wrap up season 61 for the historic Mottville Speedway and 21st under current management!
It was a tough day for Dave Logan with car troubles but he really made history by winning 3 season point championships in one season!
What can you say when a rookie wins the season points championship?
Great first season for Josh Dunnuck!
48 year old Jack Hurford finishes 2nd in the Mini Thunder Car points and wins MTC Rookie of the Year!
The day sure started off with a lot of excitment as on the final hot lap of the year Al Maurer took his SS striaght off the track and into the woods in turn 3!
You know what all of us were thinking!
Heart attack, of course!
I waited to call 911 but thankfully Al was aok!
Then his crew even got the car ready for the heat and he came back to win the heat and feature!
The Mini Stocks were having one heck of a battle for first between Dunnuck, Eric Frazier and Mike Mast when Justin Graber blew his engine just entering turn 1!
He spun in a tremendous cloud of smoke and left a trail of oil and somehow(and I have no idea how) the 3 leaders missed him!
Then we have the battle in the MTC feature between Todd Roberts and Nick Weeks! Wow!
Caleb Woods worked on his car until 2 am with help from Charlie Cotton and John Courson and won the Pure Stock feature!
Then Sunday came the worse day of the season for me, putting the track to bed for the long winter rest!
Saturday night we drained the pipes and Sunday Tom Pearson blew out the water lines.
Judy and I arrived around 3:30 and for the next 4 hours did cleaning, packing, dumping 55 gallon drums of trash and putting anti-freeze in all the stools, urinals and drains!
The dumper was almost empty when I started and it was filled to the brim and now I am going back up tonight to put the rest of the trash in the dumpster!
No doubt 2011 was a season of progress for us!
Car count was up, crowds were up, concessions were way up, and many track improvements were made!
Now we continue to build for 2012!
The top priority for March, 2012 is turning that light around on the backstretch that faces the pits and installing 2 new lights at the entrance in turn 3, one to face the track and the other to face the entrance as we want to really light up that area!
The 2012 rules, schedule, pay-off and banquet information are posted on our web site:www.mottvillespeedway.com.
We are really taking a major step foward in 2012 in adding the SPORTSMEN CLASS!
This is the biggest step we have ever taken and with it we will be running 4 classes that match up with the South Bend Motor Speedway, making it easier for drivers to run both tracks.
Our concessions should be even better and faster in 2012 with the addition of a side by side plus we will have the popular sloppy joes each race night!
Forgive me for being a little cautious here but it sure seems like our area tracks are all perhaps somewhat overly optomistic for 2012?
I mean I hope it goes well for all of us but I also hope some tracks are not biting off too much!
As always, time will tell!
But it now appears Galesburg will reopen in 2012!
That really should put an end to old story of the speedway being changed to condos because if anyone want to put condos there this was the time to buy it!
I want to thank our fine staff for all their hard work and dedication during the 2012 season-Tom, Vicki and Kayla Pearson, Jasyme Reeves and Judith Holden.
Plus Tony Eldridge for all his help late in the season.
I am happy with how we finished 2011 for certain!
We most certainly are not where we want to be, but we are sure moving in the right direction and we thank everyone for their support!
