The AMRA Late Model main was a buffet of excitement with a dish of hard-core racing from start to finish.  Tyler Carpenter and Devin Moran stoked the fire of competition throughout the event with Carpenter bringing home the exciting win.                GONE SINCE 1983 BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN...

Jame's Carrell "JIM DUNN" 1949-1983, from Roseville, Ohio,a school teacher by trade, moved up to the Latemodel Dirt Racing class in 1974 and was instantly a success. He won the first Dirt Track World Championship (DTWC) in 1981. Jim Dunn won the first DTWC, and in such a dramatic fashion that no Hollywood scriptwriter would consider it, as noted by the DTWC website.

Jim Dunn held a degree in education. After teaching high school seniors history and government, he began working for his father’s business, Dunn Trucking, which enabled him to take more time off to concentrate on racing. When the 1983 racing season began in Florida, Dunn made the trip  South and scored a ASCPoC win at East Bay Raceway. This seemed like the start of a great year.

Sunday May 8, 1983 Dunn was racing at Paducah Speedway in Kentucky in an NDRA sanctioned event. During the race,  held amid terrible track conditions, a freak racing accident occurred involving several cars. This resulted in Dunn losing consciousness and eventually his life in an ensuing fire. Jack Boggs sustained serious injuries as well, including several broken bones.

Last year Jackie Boggs won the event. Winning the race twice won by his famous father, Jackie Boggs of Grayson, Kentucky brought home the $5,000 paycheck at Midway Speedway's 28th annual Jim Dunn Memorial.  Boggs battled Devin Moran most of the race for the richest victory of his race season.  Michael Davis was second and Corey Conley third.  Chris Carpenter was four and Moran fifth.

Some of the biggest names in racing have won this event since its inception in 1983—names such as Donnie Moran, Steve Shaver, Jack Blackjack Boggs, Earl Pearson, Jr., Freddie Smith,  Ray Cook, and Larry Bond are among the names on the Marquis for one of racing’s most prestigious crowns.  Below are a list of race winners over the past three decades.

Tickets prices for General Admission are $20, 65 & over $15, kids 12 & under $5 , while Pits are $40.
