Saturday night at Crystal Motor Speedway was another full slate of racing of all six regular divisions plus the Mini Wedge division. All week long, the forecast had called for rain, but the night remained clear save for a beautiful display of lightening in the distant northeast sky.

 

 

 

In the Kentucky Fried Chicken Late Model division, Josh Borton of Crystal put on a great run until eventually being hauled in by David Hilliker of Midland and Scott Baker out of Ionia in the late stages of the event. Baker grabbed the point and was never headed as he went on to win over Hilliker, Borton, Dean Huizenga, Belmont, Chris Rinard, Ithaca, Josh Knoll, Lake, Garrett Wiles, Hubbardston, Logan Arntz, Vestaburg, Logan Love, Vestaburg, an Amanda Wing of Middleton.  Huizenga and Rinard were victors in the heat events.

 

 

 

Multi-time Lane Automotive IMCA Modified IMCA division champ AJ Ward of Ionia wasted no time moving from his ninth place starting position to take the lead and found clear sailing all the way to the checkered flag. Chad Wernette of  Sheridan did his best to reel in Ward, but had to settle for second, followed by Austin Wonch, Stanton, Brenten DeYoung, Crystal, Myron DeYoung, Stanton, Kody Johnson, Vestaburg,              John DeYoung Jr., Crystal, Nick Stormzand, Lowell,  Chad May, and Ken Zeigler of Ovid. Wonch and Brenten DeYoung won the earlier heat races.

 

 

 


Jasen Wiley of Fenwick has become the power house driver in the Street Stock division. He started seventh, but with a few laps, he was battling for the lead with Dennis Parker Jr., Crystal and Kevin Rohn, from Stanton. Despite a couple cautions, Wiley was able to motor away to yet another feature win over Parker, Rohn, Timothy DeGroft Jr., Carson City, Joel Field, Sheridan, Ryan Alexander, Stanton, Doug McKeown Jr., Fenwick, Mike Kresnak, Elwell, Gabe Geselman, Muir, and George Wease of Hubbardston. DeGroft advanced by winning the B Main while Brandon Cunningham, Scott Haney, both of Sheridan, and Parker took their heats.

 

 

 

Draven Grosvenor of Crystal, was triumphant in the Races On The Web Flinn Stock division after overtaking early leader Rusty Sowles of Howard City. Justin Stahl of Greenville, came in third, followed by Allen Roszell, Sheridan, Ronald Fuhrman, Belding, Collin Schafer, Muir, Mike Currier, Fenwick, Kolby Rohn, Sheridan, Brad Hall, Carson City. Rodney Ray, Greenville, and Cory Baker of Belding. Heat wins fell to Grosvenor and Fuhrman.

 

 

 

The Port City Racing Pro Stock feature was all Chad Raby as the Riverdale driver was able to fend off all comers to win the night. He was followed by, Kyle Prochazka, St Johns, Derek Schestag, Ashley, Eric Baird, Lowell, Jaramia Richards, Merrill, Jeramie Raby, Mt Pleasant, Mike VanderMark Jr., Sparta, John Wills, Ryan Teeter, Crystal, and Matt Muha of Greenville. Raby and VanderMark picked up heat wins in the preliminary events.

 

 

 

Despite an excellent early performance by Kenny Dittenber of Carson City and Chris Malek of Alma, Matt Pickard of Grant was able to come from his thirteenth starting position to win the Engine Pro Pro Truck feature event. Dave Peters of Alma, was also in early contention for the lead, but had to settle for fourth, followed by Curtis Rice, Muskegon, Brody Bowser, Stanton, Paul Grosnickle, Lansing, Jim Beltz, Kent City, Mickey Currier, Sidney, and Rob Putt of Fenwick. Heat wins fell to Malek and Currier.

 

 

 

In the Daily News Mini Wedge six to nine year old division, Zayden Buskirk of Crystal, collected another win over Lilyann Montgomery, also of Crystal, Mikah Kurkowski, Sidney, June Dora, Fenwick, Jazzlyn Hale, Crystal, Eli Fellows, Crystal, and Carter Brown of Hubbardston. Buskirk also claimed the heat event. In the ten to fourteen group, Rylee Knoll of Lake, brought home the win over Riley Bowen, Sheridan, Zevon Nemetz, Crystal, Dillon Kohn,   Sheridan, Aby Brown, Hubbardston, Brent Wonch, Stanton, and Andrew Bogart of Howard City. Knoll also took the heat win.

 

 

 

Next week at Crystal Motor Speedway is the Lane Automotive - Optima Batteries IMCA Modified Challenge with a top prize of $1052. Pro Stocks have the night off. The Great Lakes Super Sprints will be on hand as well as the once a year "Twin Flinn Race" where two separate races are run at the same time in opposite directions on the same track, providing a lot of excitement. It is also MARFC Night (Michigan Auto Racing Fan Club) and card holding MARFC members get in free! The night is sponsored by CMS Internet of Crystal. Gates open at 4:30. Adult admission is $15, kids 5-11 are $5, and pit passes are $25.
