MIKE BARGO SCORES SECOND BEE CREEK RECYCLING LATE MODEL FEATURE WIN
Taking the lead just after the halfway point, defending champion Mike Bargo of Corbin posted his second feature win of 2010 in the Bee Creek Recycling Late Model Series at Corbin Speedway on Saturday evening, July 24.
Bargo actually swept the program, setting fast time with a quick lap of 13.814 in qualifications and also winning the four-lap AR Bodies trophy dash.
Brian Voiles of Knoxville in his Sonny's Auto Parts Chevrolet No. 3 took the lead at the start of the 50-lap main event, but was overhauled by Jason Jones of London and the Clayton Homes Chevroelt No. 8 on the third lap.
Jones led for the next 24 trips around the quarter-mile paved oval, hanging on to the front spot through three double-file restarts following caution periods.
After another caution on the 26th lap, Bargo was on the outside of the front row, and the pair stayed side-by-side for more than a lap, with Jones having a slight advantage as they went across the start-finish line to complete the 27th.
Coming out of the second turn on the following lap, Bargo managed to find some traction on the outside and took his Leah's Catering Chevrolet No. 22 out in front, then led the rest of the way. He went under the checkered flag about six car lengths ahead of Jones.
"It seems like it's been forever since I've been here in the winner's circle," commented Bargo, whose other feature win this year came on April 10, the season's opening night. "I have to thank the Lord, of course, and all my guys, all the guys who've helped me. We've had a few mechanical problems for the past few weeks, but we're about to get it back together."
Tim Hollis of Pioneer, Tenn., finished third in his WhiplashGear.com Ford No. 22x, followed in order by Marty Taylor of Keavy, driving the Brock Excavating Chevrolet No. 17, and Jim Foley of Williamsburg with the Quality Care Auto Service and Towing Chevrolet No. 04.
Making up sixth through tenth in the final finish were Brian Royalty of Cynthiana in the A&J Service Center Chevrolet No. 24, Jared Smith of Stanford driving the Danville Office Equipment Chevrolet No. 94, Kenny Andrews of Crossville, Tenn. with the Andrews Racing Chevrolet No. 27, Eugene Smith of Corbin and his Thunder Sam's Fireworks Chevrolet No. 5, and Voiles.
Eric Centers of Corbin finished 11th in the Long Point Asset Management Chevrolet No. 98, and Donnie Stamper of Lexington was 12th with his Stamper Racing Chevrolet No. 7.
The next regular racing program planned for Corbin Speedway is on Saturday, August 7.
