Champions to be crowned FRIDAY NIGHT at Kinross

KINROSS, MI-

The chase for the track championships will come to a close THIS FRIDAY NIGHT – August 31st -when the Kinross Speedpark holds it’s final points night, and second last event of the 2018 local stock car racing season as part of the Chippewa County Fair.

 

Racing under the lights kicks off with time trials at 6 PM and racing action to follow at 7:30 PM.

 

Main grandstand admission (as set by the Chippewa County Fair) is $12 USD for Adults/Students/Seniors, $8 USD for Children aged 4 to 12 while Under 4 are FREE.

 

The evening’s 50/50 draw is in support of EUP Great Start.

 

Leading into Friday night, the points standings are some of the tightest the 1/4 mile asphalt oval has seen in recent years.

A pair of division’s saw driver’s flip positions following the track’s last event – sure to lead to an exciting event in front of an expected large crowd.

 

MARK LAAKSO (#84, Echo Bay ON) overtook first place in the Modified Divisions standings and holds the slimmest of margins – one point – over LEILA UHLMAN (#11, Sault Ste. Marie, ON), 257 points to 256.

DEAN EGGART (#88, Kinross MI) has a comfortable advantage for the final podium position.

 

Similarly, BRANDON CARSON (#54, Petoskey MI) brings a two-point lead into the night over GRANT HOWARD (#19, Petoskey, MI) in the ABC Stock Car A-Division.

These two drivers recently finished one-two at the Onaway Speedway and the stage is set for another epic finish, this time north of the Mackinaw Bridge.

KEENAN SPURWAY (#0, Sault Ste. Marie ON) rounds out the top three.

 

BUDDY PALAHNUK (#26B, Goulais River ON) is looking to repeat as track champion in the ABC Stock Car B-Division, while holding a 25 point lead over BRAD BIBEAU (#26, Sault Ste. Marie ON).

Rookie pilot, JON DIODATI (#52, Sault Ste. Marie ON) has ran consistently to sit in third place.

 

While REBECCA FEWCHUK is on the verge of becoming the first female track champion since 2010, and just the third in the track’s history.

The Sault Ste. Marie ON competitor (#99) has the most comfortable (52 points) lead in the standings over her sibling – and defending track champion – BRENT FEWCHUK (#3, Sault Ste. Marie ON).

CODY BEACH (#15, Harbor Springs MI) rounds out the top three.

 

To get to Kinross, take exit 378 off the I-75 and follow the signs to the Chippewa County Fairgrounds.
