HELENA, Calif. (June 24, 2019) – Although his 2019 Ohio Sprint Speedweek campaign launched with a rocky start, missing A-main competition at Attica Raceway Park and Muskingum County Speedway on Friday and Sunday, June 14 & 16, respectively, St. Helena, California’s Rico Abreu rounded in a hurry, capping off the nine-day turned four-race schedule with back-to-back top-five performances, one of which a podium run – a third place finish – during action at Wayne County Speedway on Wednesday, June 19.

In fact, each of Abreu’s Ohio Sprint Speedweek top-five performances occurred during action at Wayne County Speedway, the second taking shape during the $10,000-to-win Speedweek finale on Saturday, June 22; Abreu advanced from eighth to finish fifth.

Although missing main event action at Muskingum County Speedway on June 16, it was not from a lack of effort. In actuality, Abreu was in a main event transfer position during his respective heat race when a cut tire forced Abreu to stop before the checkers. An 11th place starting position in the evening’s B-main proved to be too much to overcome. Still, Abreu charged to sixth in 12 laps.

At Attica Raceway Park on Friday, Abreu was involved in a ‘nowhere to go’ incident during his respective heat race, ultimately forcing the recent Peter Murphy Classic champion to load up and scratch for the night.

By week’s end, Mother Nature was responsible for four Ohio Sprint Speedweek cancellations or postponements.

“It was a fun week. At first, we were a little frustrated with how things were turning out. It gets aggravating when you know you have the speed to perform well. We just couldn’t get things to fall our way,” Rico Abreu said, driver of the Rico Abreu/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Abreu Vineyards/Curb Records/Lucas Oil Products/Southern Pacific Farms/Priority Aviation/Self Made Racing/Dancer Logistics/No. 24 sprint car. “Lucky for me, I surround myself with great people and hard workers. Their perseverance really showed this week and I am proud of their efforts.”

With little time to rest, Rico Abreu and Rico Abreu Racing will begin preparations for a different edition of Speedweek, this time joining the infamous Pennsylvania Posse during Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek competition, which ignites, officially, on Friday, June 28, at Williams Grove Speedway. Abreu will hop on the Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek trail beginning Monday, July 1. Prior obligations in California will keep Abreu from participating in the first three rounds.
