FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Norway, MI) June 21 – Third-generation driver Robby Iverson played it safe and dodged several caution periods and went on to grab the lead on a restart with two laps to go to capture the Auto Value Round I super late model main event at Norway Speedway Friday night.

With the win Iverson captured the lion’s share of the purse winning the $1,000 top prize.

Iverson, who started deep in the pack after scoring fast time earlier in the evening, patiently stayed out of trouble through a bevy of cautions which flew periodically throughout the contest.

Polesitter Joey Pontbriand was the early leader with Scott Stanchina muscling his way into the lead on lap 11. Through a flurry of cautions Stanchina kept the lead, only to have his brother Brian Stanchina slice his way up into the second spot.

During the second half of the contest Dillion Kralovetz, Mark Schroeder and Iverson began closing in on the Stanchina brothers.

With a restart with five laps remaining Scott Stanchina kept the lead but was pressured by his brother. With two laps remaining he brothers collided on a backstretch, sending both cars spinning.

Iverson was handed the lead on the restart and kept Kralovetz at bay to capture the win.  “Man we sure needed this win,” Iverson exclaimed in victory lane. “I sure hated to see those guys wreck. I sort of had a feeling something like that might happen.”

The Auto Value super stock feature also had it’s fair share of yellow flags but sported several different leaders. John Mattia Jr. led much of the early going but was overtaken by Ryan Wender. The Upper Pine Creek driver kept the lead through caution periods and was being pressured by Andy Gerwig.

On the final lap coming out of turn four for the checkers Wender got tagged by Gerwig, sending Wender spinning. Track officials charged Gerwig with the caution and awarded the victory to Brett Bray, who crossed the line second behind Gerwig.

The track’s three other divisions hosted feature races that went caution free. Capturing victories were Armstrong Creek’s Michelle “Polish Princess” Janczewski in the 141 Auto stocks, Marquette’s Destiny Bullard in the Ken’s Sports sport trucks. Vulcan’s Zack Gazda lapped all but the second and third place finishers en route to a smashing win in the MC Graphics stock fours.

Racing resumes next Friday June 28. A huge fireworks display is on tap sponsored by Sayklly’s Candies and River Valley Bank along with an exhibition race with the UTV racers sponsored by Richard’s of Dunbar. Racing gets underway at 6:45 p.m. Please check our website norwayspeedway.com and at our page on Facebook for further information or email ostermannjohn@hotmail.com.
