OPEN SANCTIONING AT EAGLE RIVER SPEEDWAY’S MID-WEEK PROGRAM IN ‘19 (National champion “Hot Rod” Snellenberger to battle weekly in Eagle River street stocks)

(EAGLE RIVER, WI) May 28 – Eagle River Speedway’s open “no-sanction” Tuesday night program in 2019is expected to draw a number of drivers from a three-state region – including drivers who normally compete in multiple sanctioning bodies throughout Wisconsin and the Midwest.

Track promoters Pat and Patti Zdroik have announced the season opening race at the D-shaped, third-mile clay oval will be Tuesday, June 18. The track’s headlining “B Mod” class will allow drivers from WISSOTA, IMCA and USRA sanctions to compete. Same goes for the track’s street stock division where WISSOTA, Cowbell Street Stock Tour and the Unified Dirt Street Stock rules package that most northeast Wisconsin dirt tracks follow. Drivers will not be allowed to “mix and match” the respective rules packages and must declare what rules package they plan on following on Tuesday nights.

With the street stock class IMCA-style stock cars are also being allowed to compete weekly. That provision has drawn IMCA’s winningest stock car driver from Wisconsin to race at Eagle River weekly – Pulaski’s “Hot Rod” Snellenberger. To date Snellenberger, a former national champion, has amassed a total of well over 200-plus victories in a racing career that started in 1993. Snellenberger will have some assistance when it comes to the 2 and ½ hour tow to Eagle River each way.

“I’ve got my Dad (Al Snellenberger) coming with me and he said he’d drive back home at night so I can try and catch some zzz’s on the way home,” Snellenberger joked. “We’re looking forward to running up in Eagle River with the street stocks. It should be a good challenge.”

Joining Snellenberger in the tow north to Eagle River on Tuesday nights will be Mike Carter from Greenleaf.

The Eagle River oval continues to receive a facelift before the opener. The fronstretch has been widened by 20 feet while the corners and the backstretch will approximately 30 to 35 feet wider. What was normally a narrow track should be wide enough to provide fans some three-wide racing on occasion.

Zdroik’s have set the draw cutoff for opening night for 7 p.m., allowing teams ample time to travel to the oval nestled in Wisconsin’s Northwoods in beautiful Vilas County. “We’ve had calls from drivers from Minnesota and Michigan who plan on competing weekly,” Pat Zdroik said. “We could very well have drivers from three states running here weekly in 2019. Once we get rolling our goal is to have the show wrapped up each night by 9:30 p.m. so we can get everyone back on the road at a decent hour.”

One of the track’s marquee events for 2019 will be the “B Mod Shootout” on Tuesday, July 2. Details are being worked on but this event will feature a hefty payout which is expected to draw many of the top drivers from multiple sanctions in not only north central Wisconsin, but also the hotbed of northeast Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula as well.

Joining the B Mods and Street Stocks weekly will be Pure Stocks, 4 Bangers, 600 Micro Sprints and Junior Sprints.

An 11-date schedule is slated, with a practice date expected to be announced prior to the June 18 opener. The pit area will open at 5:30 p.m. with the grandstand opening at 6 p.m. The first green flag is ready to fly tentatively at 7:15 p.m.
