ST. HELENA, Calif. (September 10, 2018) – Adding another line in the Silver Dollar Speedway history books, St. Helena, California’s Rico Abreu gave his Golden State fans something extra special to be proud of on Saturday night and earned his second Gold Cup Race of Champions title in three years.

The victory, a $15,000 accomplishment, was just as impressive as it was special, climbing ahead from fifth on the grid to take command officially on lap 26 of 40, ultimately withstanding a handful of cautions while keeping Tim Kaeding, Cory Eliason and Shane Stewart at bay. For Abreu, the victory bumped his World of Outlaws win count to two on the season, also earning an Ironman 55 triumph in early August.

Abreu’s other recent results include an impressive hard charge from 20th to finish tenth at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore., on Wednesday, September 5, followed by a 15th place finish during Gold Cup Race of Champions preliminary action at Silver Dollar on Friday, September 7. The hard charge at Willamette was good enough to solidify KSE Hard Charger Award honors with the World of Outlaws by advancing the most positions during feature competition.

“I really can’t say enough about my race team. They are young, but they work hard. They are becoming one of the best in the business,” Rico Abreu explained, driver of the Rico Abreu Racing/Abreu Vineyards/Alpinestars/Lucas Oil/Rhino Wipe/Priority Aviation/No. 24. “Winning another Gold Cup in front of my home crowd is really special. I grew up racing here every Friday night. It’s great to get a win, especially when you beat the Outlaws. I’m excited to see what the rest of the season has in store for us.”

If all goes according to plan, Rico Abreu will continue the World of Outlaws West Coast Swing and rejoin the Greatest Show On Dirt during a visit to Placerville (Calif.) Speedway on Wednesday, September 12, followed by a two-day visit to Calistoga Speedway on Friday and Saturday, September 14 & 15. The trip to Placerville Speedway holds a $20,000 potential.

“Calistoga Speedway is right down the road from where I live,” Abreu continued. “I’m excited to get there.”
